Camera zoom
« on: September 18, 2007, 03:00:02 am »
Hey, I noticed in the trailer how the camera zooms in and out and changes the focus depending on the situation.  Is that zoom all automatic, or do you control how much the camera pans?

Right now its automatic, based on a few factors.

* Some of the open areas zoom to let you see more at once (this is something I added just recently)
* Some enemies will zoom it if they're epic enough
* Otherwise, the camera will zoom out to a set level as Naija moves. If she sits still for a while, it'll slowly zoom in to show more detail.

I'd just like to state here that this is one of the features that really impressed me as it works so seamlessly with no glitches.

Panzer's right, it adds a lot to the game, and it works so smoothly.  Good job on it, you two.

even if it works smoothly, will there be a manual zoom unlockable or otherwise?

No, it won't take off.  Airplanes get lift from airflow over the wings.  The airplane sitting on the treadmill will never get any airflow over the wings, thus not get any lift, thus it won't take off.

Wait... that isn't the topic...

But I use a Mac!  WinRAR is useless!  I would rather use UnRarX!

Code: [Select]
sudo aptitude install unrar
...is all it takes. God bless Ubuntu.

If one has fink installed, the procedure is similar on a Mac.  Though there is a GUI to help.  ;)

There are several GUIs in Linux - but they all suck compared to aptitude. In fact, aptitude can be run without any arguments and it'll come up with a GUI of sorts!

BACK ON TOPIC, camera zoom indeed. I wish Sega had hired you guys to do the camera in Sonic Adventure. :P

Let me ask again before we continue our offtopicness  :) :

will we be able to control the zoom with the mouse wheel or buttons?

There's a middle mouse button "look" feature that lets you shift the camera and zooms it out to a set level. Other than that, no... there's no need to control the camera zoom.
