suggestions for the next update
« on: March 21, 2008, 12:37:19 am »
just a little thing, but it would be great if li would ride on the turtle with naija (or does he get punished for something?)

and i found a bug with the keyboard control:
sometimes naija doesn't react to the keys, the funny thing is that the light in sunform still does

sometimes wasd and 1-0 don't work (don'tknow about the rest) but in the abbys i noticed that the light still shined into the direction you want to swim

it sometimes happens when exiting the menu, and somtimes in the middle of the game
when it happens in the game naija drifts ~half a screen in the direction she was swimming and afterwards doesn't react for ~ 1 second
the mous is still working at that time

Hrm... wonder if anyone else can reproduce that problem. It might be because your mouse is still moving slightly and thereby generating input and fighting with the keyboard. (although I'm not sure I block keyboard when the mouse is moving)

I've noticed that when your mouse cursor is hovering over the minimap, the WASD keys stop working; not sure about the song keys. Could it be that?

Alec: Any particular reason it has to be that way? I don't know about other people, but I've been in fights where I'm trying to dodge enemy fire and I happen to mouse over the minimap while trying to aim my shots and I suddenly lose movement control. The game is still full of awesome, but it is a minor annoyance.

I know people asked before for the map to be changed. Since there isn't a key or anything, if we move our mouse over the icon, can a small description show up at the bottom of the screen explaining it? The other option would be having the text next to the icon, but that might get annoying if you're just moving it normally, looking around (like you do the majority of the time) and a wall of text shows up and blocks some of your view. Silent Hill had a map like Aquaria's, but the symbols made sense to the player when he looked at the map, so no key was required. Because as of right now, most of the icons only mean something to Naija, and not to the player. Lastly, someone said that adding notes yourself would help. I would like it so I could note where there's a secret I needed to come back to later. Since your maps are large, and the world is huge, this would help. Implementing it on the other hand I can see would be a pain. You have to make sure it doesn't mess with the other icons, and the fact that you have maps overlaying maps, the player would have to tell the game which one it's trying to select,... Also I do not understand why you get an icon on your map after killing a boss and not right when you meet it, but that's just nit-picking right now.

Having an option to play all the bosses again, either by revisiting the place again (that would be a long trek) or adding another option in the "MODS" section.  "Shadow of the Colossus" and "God of War" (kinda) did this and it added to the replay value ALOT. The boss fights are soooo much fun to play. They are really the highlight of the game, for me.

Maybe when beating them you get a little message saying "new content unlocked" and you can then access it from the "MODS" menu. I know there's more to it such as which songs to give the person, how much lifebar and/or item/pets, etc. I don't know if letting the player decide via some options would be the best idea or presetting it.  Presetting it (maybe with a timer) would give a "Challenge of the Gods" feel for those who really like this game and want a challenge in playing it, but giving options will let people play it either on easy or by stripping everything themselves, a "fight to the death" feel. Depends on which type of gamers you want to cater to.

On that note of "New content unlocked" could you add some of the key the cutscenes (story + memories) that the player goes through to the "MODS" menu? In the scenes you made Naija transform back to her original form so you won't have to customly re-record it for each game (some games have this problem when you enter an area with let's say a rocket launcher, and the cut scene shows them having a pistol. Such an old issue yet it still pops up all the time). After not playing the game for 2 weeks or so I really forgot where I was going and needed to look through the forums for help. I know some people said adding a journal or diary might work, but that seems like alot of work: making new content, adding it, etc. Maybe just referring to those cutscenes might be easier.

I know these are more than little changes, just my 2 cents. Good luck, thanks for the game.

The first has indeed been asked a lot, and I don't know if it had use to add descriptions to the icons, the round ones re misterious to me, but te boss icons are obvious and the rest like the plant bulbs are also pretty obvious.

Boss fights would be very confusing, seeing most people had a different amount of forms.

I don't get that new content unlocked suggestion you give

Reviewing VISIONS would be a good idea afaik, but I don't know what rest you want to change, seeing most cutscenes just happened and are done, you got something from the cutscene. Maybe a Mod would indeed be a idea.

And not playing a exploration game for 2 weeks and then forgetting where you had to go is logical, maybe you should've written down something to remind yourself what you did and where you were, even though most of the time people remember what they did and you can also of course look at the map and the items you have already.
God sees and knows everything, but at least he won't gossip about it.

We're making some changes to the map system. The big one being you can check your progress in other areas and see the names of the maps that you visited.

I've played several games that either had a fieldbook of the monsters you've encountered or you go to a gladiator tournament and rebattle them in a new context.

the various ideas bandied about with the map like movable custom icons and writing on the map are neat and all, but that is a major good feature you're implementing. that was something that always bugged me, not being able to totally complete a map ( like mergog boss because not having beast form ) and forgetting exactly where. this will completly enhance the game!

I don't get that new content unlocked suggestion you give

Just so it'll notify you when you hit a trigger and can access something new. Kinda like it does when you gain spells/items/pets/treasures in the game already. Just add cutscenes to the list, if they were to be implemented.

Ah, yeah, I get what you mean now, but if that would be added, it would be needed in another menu. Seeing that you can always acces everything in the mods section.
