Kelp Forest troubles
« on: February 20, 2008, 11:01:03 pm »
Hi,

Ever since I've got the full version I've been trying to play through both Mithalas (I haven't entered the Cathedral yet, though) and Kelp Forest. I decided to go for Kelp Forest first, but I'm having a lot of trouble there. I've found the Fish form and the Spirit Cave, but I always end up swimming towards the same areas...

Could anyone give me some pointers or anything? I don't need detailed explainations of how to get everything there is in there, but I do want to know in what direction I'm supposed to go and what I need before I can go and fight the boss Naija was thinking about in the Spirit Cave.

I'm not yet sure whether I'll try the Mithalas Cathedral before I continue in Kelp Forest (I do remember a house in Mithalas where there is this hole which I need a fish form for, so I'm going to check that out too), but I'm pretty sure I will have less trouble in there if the enemies in the Cathedral are about as though as the ones both in and outside of the castle. (Although I've heard you can't kill the black jelly. :P)

Thanks in advance!

It's spelled "tough".  Sorry, pet peeve.  But yes, I found Kelp Forest a tad too difficult for me without my favorite form and a health egg under my belt...I don't mind backtracking too much, and having played the game once now and being better at it than I was I would probably do the Kelp Forest first.  But if you're having difficulty I would suggest going to the Mathalas Cathedral first.  It's just a tad easier and I think it's good "training' for the rest of the game.

Yeah, I could've guessed Mithalas would be better to do first. I only have the Fish and Energy Forms and just a little health bonus. Oh, and two treasures: the tooth of the Energy Temple boss and that lamp that attracts certain fish. I think I'm rushing this game too much, since there should be some treasures in there. I'm glad I found the Kelp Forest Turtle, though, otherwise I could never have returned to the Home Waters to find some food (mainly leafs, but still) and Nautulus Prime who owned me big time.

Really, Kelp Forest would be easier without those annoying lobsters (they're lobsters, right?) shooting those really nasty particles which cost you about 3-4 health.

The pistol shrimp?  Yea those are the most dangerous enemies in the game as far as I'm concerned.  Well...thsoe and the mecha-crabs in an area you havn't visited yet.  STAY AWAY FROM THEM!

I did Mithalis first on first time through and it was in hind sight a smart move. second time I did Kelp forest as much as I could and it's been more fun, and mostly so I could do as much of the game through with all the forms you get from Kelp. it's a different sort of challenge, but doing Mithalis first is not a bad idea, it's a good hump to get over.

Well, I finished Mithalas now. I found Li, beat Nautilus Prime, stole her baby and now I'm stuck in Kelp Forest. Again.

I just can't figure it out: how should I deal with this boss? I've searched various threads on this boss but none of the things I've found seems to work. I've tried shooting the boss, singing while she was firing missiles (which looked purple, thus I sang the purple note), binding the frogmen, luring the frogmen to the boss, swearing in my mind, etc. but nothing seemed to work. I always take out the frogmen before I fight the boss, but how do I defeat it? When does it sing? I have a hunch that she sings missiles at you, but alas...

In case you need to know what I have:
Forms: Energy Form, Beast Form, Fish Form,
Pets and similar things: Li, Nautilus (baby of Nautilus Prime)
Songs: Li's Song, Bind Song, Shield Song
Costumes: Mithalan priestess (or princess?) costume, Krokite costume

Still, I can't seem to beat that big pest. What am I doing wrong?

EDIT: It seems like this Kelp Forest boss is a sideboss... It's a frogmen (or frogwoman?) riding some statuethingy. Is this the real Kelp Forest Boss or not?

That's an optional boss, yeah.

I found the real boss now. Compared to earlier bosses and the difficulty of the rest of Kelp Forest (especially the optional boss!) she was a real pushover, but still I managed to die once or twice when fighting her. Still, I'm glad I have nature form right now, so I can go and enter the sun temple now. :)

Nature form was never needed before Sun Temple, you could've gone right through, but Nature form DOES help against the boss battle in the Sun Temple, just so you know.  ^_^
God sees and knows everything, but at least he won't gossip about it.

If you're triksy you don't even need beast form for the Sun Temple. ;)
