*spoilers!* Exploring the Abyss
« on: December 15, 2007, 05:50:17 pm »
The fact that sun form wasn't required to really explore the abyss got me stuck for three to six hours when I played the first time; I would just navigate by singing to the glowing fish and just going deeper and deeper, until I reached a point where they got eaten and I had no way of getting back out. I was at a total loss of how and where to get sun form, and I was just about to quit before coming to the forums. (Made it all the way to sunken city with no sun form, but couldn't get back out because of lack of any light).

It might be helpful to make the glowing fish in the abyss NOT follow you when you sing, because it seems to imply that it's meant to be played that way.

If I remember correctly, Naija sais something about not going into the Abyss without the force of light...

I did venture a little ways into the abyss, but that glowy fish thing kept getting away from me after a couple of minutes and so I decided to play it safe and wait.

She says that you had to be very brave to proceed without a source of light.

"Sure, I'm brave", I thought after having explored everything else that I could reach without the beast form (again, I didn't attempt to sit on the throne), and apart from the areas that you need the spirit form to enter I had explored the entire abyss (including beat the Jelly king) before getting into the cathedral. Getting out from the savepoint before the nature teleporter was a real bitch without lights...

I assumed the "source of light" was the fish, because of how ambiguous the message was.

Somebody should really spoiler tag this thread (even though it should be pretty obvious to anyone entering, always good to cover your ass).

That's interesting.  I was convinced there was another form, so I didn't venture too deep, but I did go a ways in using the fish just to be ballsy, figuring that it would be a bad idea and I'd just load if I died.  I managed to get back out again okay because I didn't go too deep.

Honestly, I can't imagine how rough and annoying it would have been to get all the way down there just using the fish.  How the hell did you get past the anglers?  I feel like the game provided pretty adequate feedback that you weren't supposed to go down there, but obviously some people are gluttons for punishment... so you're right, something should be done to prevent that.  It's a cool thing that people can do it if they want to, so I'd hate to say that it should be completely prevented, but it should somehow be made more obvious that it isn't the "proper" method.

Well, all of the posts in the gameplay forum contains spoilers to some degree. I would guess that's why it's spoiler tagged on the main page.

I got the hint at first and simply left for Mithalas and Kelp forest instead... But when all that was explored, there was no hint of where you were actually *supposed* to go and the Abyss was the only area I found it possible to explore at the time.

How the hell did you get past the anglers?

Trial and improvement. You can get 2-3 glowfish to follow you from the very beginning and if you seldom loose more than one at each angler. Along the way, other fish light up the path and if not, you can just hug the wall and hope for the best. Getting down to sunken city was tricky, though, since there are so many walls covered with thorns. Getting back up was even worse as they don't respawn and they usually only last you the way down.

Really crazy.  I'm going to have to try that on my next time through the game just because it sounds hardcore.

Yes... I'm exploring the abyss without any source of light except for the jellyfish and I tell you... it's a pain. I got after the nature portal and used the huge lantern-fishes as a source of light, then the spiders walking on the walls, then I got eaten from those strange luminescents things on the walls in order to save my light-tail-guiding fishes... and so on. It's madness. I couldn't get the end of the abyss, so I'm trying to escape now. But after loading the game, there's no fish anymore! Mad mad!

That must be crazy hard.  Anyone know if there's any way to get the shiny dumbo pet without Sun Form?

Not that likely, you have to go through a lot of caves and tunnels in the dark to find the octopus and then kill him through attacking this little vulnerable piece of him without seeing him? I think it is quite impossible even if you have done it with sun form before...

AND you need the sun form for the ending so go get it anyway.

But it would be awesome to have a save game of Naija at the body without the Sun Form.

Without using cheats or trainers and without modifying the save file of course.
