I realize the white circles on the mini-map are exits, the red one being a save point, but when you single click on the minimap without opening up the big map and it makes a sonar ring, is that anything?

No, I think it's just something graphical. Notice that when you click on the minimap while it's open that the sensor goes inward. Just something fancy I guess.

I think it's just an indicator  that clicking does something so maybe you'll realize that you CAN click on it to open the map.  After all, if you hadn't seen that happen would you have thought to double click it?

Lol, it could have just been made to open with one click, but then I suppose that would be a problem if you accidently clicked it while swimming down-right.
I think its also so that if you try to swim down-right and you aren't moving, the pulse thing tells you that you accidently hit the minimap and thats why you aren't swimming.

I was 99% sure it was nothing, but seems like I find something new about this game every time I play it, you never know.
