Contra 4
« on: December 21, 2007, 09:27:14 pm »

It's really quite good!  Extremely tough (as it should be), but I'm playing a little every day and finding that I can get a bit further each time.  I really look forward to playing each time.

And they use the dual-screen setup in some clever ways... letting you grapple between the screens and fighting bosses that extend up very high vertically.  It's a good use of the DS hardware that's not gimmicky!

Plus the graphics and music are pretty damn sweet. ;)

I don't know if I'd necessarily call it a mind-blowing experience, and it took a while for my hands to get used to the DS's controls... but it definitely gets "good ol' fashioned fun" down perfectly.  I highly recommend it for anyone who enjoys Contra or retro run n' guns in general.

Nintendo DS. And it is very hard, but when you die you get angry not at the game, but at yourself, because you suck. It's not cheap and doesn't cheat against you, it's just better than your crappy human skills  :P

Virt did the music, so this game automatically has to be the tits.

Plus, its Contra.

Too bad I don't think I will be able to get a grasp of this anytime soon since I am a European.

The DS isn't region locked, so you could import it easily.

My funds are low, which sucks, because I've really wanted this.  Contra was one of the first games I really obsessed over when I was younger, so seeing a return to its roots is just awesome.  And I finally have a DS since my wife's getting a DS Lite for Christmas and I'm inheriting her old brick, so I'll actually have something to play it on!  I just need someone to give me free money first.   :(
