Moving Save Games between users
« on: August 18, 2008, 10:41:18 pm »
Hi there.

I've tried searching the forum for help on this topic to no avail. Sorry if I missed something, but here goes anyway:

My daughter is a big fan of Aquaria and has made some good progress (as far as I can tell), but when I originally bought the game for her it was installed under my user account because at the time she didn't have one. In an attempt to manage her online time I have now created her an account of her own, and would like to transfer her savegames so that they appear in Aquaria when it is run under her account. Can anyone advise me how I do this? I am running XP pro.

Thanks in advance.

As far as I can tell all save game files are stored in the installation folder of Aquaria under the sub-folder named save. Not stored in specific locations under the documents and settings profiles. So as far as I can tell you could just re-install the game while in her profile and then copy her save games to that new save sub-folder. But I really don't see why you would have to do this is the save files are already located in the installations save folder. I could see how you would have to do this if it was saved under a profile in documents and settings profiles folder. Kind of like how microsoft does it's save games for many of it's games, IE dungeon siege 1 & 2.

Well quite. I don't understand how it decides which savegames belong to which user. The game runs fine under her profile, but her savegames are all black ingame.

Interesting; well I would think it would be just a matter of copying a saving those savefiles from the save subdirectory. Perhaps you could login under your username, go to the folder and copy the files, then load up her profile and paste them into her save folder if they are missing. Otherwise I don't think I'd be of any other help. Maybe Alec can answer this when he has a chance. Hope you are able to resolve the issue.

How do you mean her savegames are "black"?  As in the thumbnails at the save/load screen are just black images or the screen is all black when you load up a save?

This...game...ROCKS!

Sorry, when I said "black" what I actually meant was "blank".

Anyway, problem solved: it's a permissions issue. I gave her full control of the save folder and it's contents and all is well. :)

Nice to see that you got your issue resolved. :) I figured as much, as it definitely looks like Aquaria only saves savegames in the save subfolder. -kudos to figuring it out. :D
