Problem on Linux
« on: March 02, 2013, 01:12:35 am »
First of all, GREAT GAME!

I bought it on Steam (Linux), it wasn't working at first, but then I found a few patches on here and managed to play it. I guess so far I was playng with the Community binaries, as that's what appeared in the home screen when launching the game. Anyway, this recently changed to "Aquaria 1.1.3" which I guess means the broken executable was fixed in Steam as well. This made the achievements I made BEFORE this moment not being recognized, but that's not the issue I'm facing (even though that's kind of annoying as well).

That said, I don't know if that's what causing my issues or not, but I've encountered a few problems, one of which I'm afraid might be breaking the whole game. I played a lot in the game (I guess I'm close to the end) and found myself not knowing what to do next, so I checked a walkthrough. It turned out I didn't corner the sub (Li), apparently a very important character, in his cave, so I went there and Naija said something about "removing his shell". I tried to use the bind spell (which is what the walkthrough told to do as well), but nothing happened. Apparently a cutscene should appear, but it doesn't, which means I'm kind of stuck there... is there any way to fix this without playing the game from scratch?

I had a similar issue, probably a scripting issue, with a boss earlier in the game. I'm talking of the cricket like monster that hangs from the wall when you reach the top of the cave jumping through the bubbles (Bubble cave). I bind one of his bombs, make him fall using Nature Form, and then he gets up again and does nothing anymore: no more throwing bombs, shooting at him does nothing, and the whole thing just stops there. The only thing I could do was leave the cave and do something else. I also tried again with exactly the same result.

Does all this ring any bell? what can I do to fix this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, hope to hear from you soon!

Try checking the logs for script issues. If you want to stick with the Steam version, have it validate your cache so it can put the old scripts back, because different development version need different script versions due to scripting interface changes.

Yep, ryan pushed a new build to steam just today or yesterday. See this page.

@GMMan: The scripts from my updates work with the older versions. The work for these was done by achurch, and he managed to have the new scripts compatible to the old version.

Anyway, if you're staying with the steam version, revert your files just to be sure. You can also stay with the builds provided here, your choice. In any case, your saves are compatible so you won't lose progress. (And if you think a save is broken, I can probably fix it if you send it to me. Just sayin'.)

The AI stopping is very likely a script bug as GMMan pointed out, so posting some relevant lines from your debug.log would be helpful. Just keep in mind that the game overwrites the debug.log file when it starts.

Yes, shortly after sending the message, I tried checking the cache and a lot of files were downloaded again: after doing that, it worked as expected, so sorry for bothering you with such a non-issue! Back to playing now  ;D
