HELP!!!! Can't get past collecting food items!

I'm obviously dense.  I've spent hours "exploring" but the most I've been able to do is collect food,feed Naija and protect her from projectiles.  Have tried to no avail to "learn"new songs.  Just can't get past first base.  HELP!

Funny, i work on a quite hardcore mod and people have problems with such easy things. I think this will be really interesting at some point.

To summarize it real quick, and prevent you from using forum search:

1) If you haven't yet, find your home cave (with the huuuge save crystal and cooking place inside)
2) Go to the song temple (bottom right of home waters), figure out how to open the big swirly door, and nab a song.
3) If you have gotten that, go to the energy temple, which is just left of your home cave.
4) Enjoy the energy temple, and get used to... you will see

And, uh... no spoilers, right?

Wait, one (minimal) spoiler: This is the easy part. Good that you already got used to the controls

After the energy temple, a lot of people seem to get stumped on finding a pearl for the door east, but it's nearby, so just keep looking. That's after you've done the energy temple though.

I have also seen people unable to CHARGE a pearl with a CHARGED shot...

... that doesn't count as a spoiler, does it?
