Download Problem
« on: June 29, 2011, 10:31:25 pm »
Hi,

I bought Aquaria on june 5th and tried to download it from the link provided with the confirmation e-mail. When it finished I ended up with a 22-MB-executable that produced an error message when I tried to run it (NSIS ERROR - Installer Integrety Check failed). Probably the download was incomplete for some reason.

I immediately tried to re-download it an that was when things got strange. Instead of starting a new download a copy of the existing incomplete file was created on my harddrive instantly. I tried it serveral times with the same result an then the download page told me:

 "Cannot download

This product is no longer available for download, this may be due to the maximum number of allowed attempts exceeded or the allotted time.
Please contact the manufacturer of the product for support. "

I contacted BitBlot on that same day about the problem but didn't receive a response for about a week, so I contacted Plimus who sent me an e-mail that told me that my download was reset. Unfortunately the page gave me the exact same message as above an no download took place.

I told Plimus about this and they wrote me that they contacted BitPlot and I should wait for 2 buissiness days... Well I waited over 2 weeks now. So what's up? Will I ever be able to download the game? Are those guys on extended holidyas? Has anyone any helpful advice?

Well, the first thing you should have done when you got a corrupted download is to clear the browser's cache. Firefox tends to have this problem on big downloads (in fact, it happens even if the file was 5 MB and your connection was a little spotty). Try emailing Nava (chrissy at infiniteammo dot ca) so that she can reset the download count for you. (Note: Bit-Blot is sort of spinning down, because both Alec and Derek are working on their own separate projects. As you can see, the home page hadn't been updated in a long time.)

Thanks, i'll try to contact that person.

I have to say though, that i used a different browser on a different OS when Plimus claimed that my download has been reset (maybe it was to late then).  Did'nt know, that I had limited download attempts.

Distribution companies are like that. They try to make you pay for their  "extended download" and "backup disc" (which I heard was just a CD-R), and if you don't they limit you. If you want the game right now, I suggest searching for a Humble Indie Bundle torrent (the original, of course).

Thank you guys

I organized a copy now - seems to work, hope it's virus-free. I'm not really happy with that solution but I'm also not keen in putting more effort into this. At least i know now, why I'm prefering boxed games ;)

If you really want to make sure it's virus free, try one of my new binaries. It's built from the community source code, and there's nothing bad there. The only thing I've got to caution you is that it's not bug free, and is a bit larger than the original file.

The community builds have less bugs than the version still shipped by plimus or "other sources" (thanks to all the fixes of those involved). Imho you are really better off with the new builds ;)

At least you have bought the game and can prove that if necessary for anything (who knows...)

Ah and a random note about boxed games, are you sure?
Imagine CDs that get lost, dusty, scratched, and tons of game boxes that fill rooms but have to be kept because they have the authentication codes... :P

Anyways, have fun now. Check the forum from time to time, there may be updates!
