#1 Blaster Peg, my fave offensive pet
#2 Dumbo Octopus, really liked how he was a lil lightbulb and you could be in another form with a nightlight. the leadership roll with that is great!
#3 Nautilus, great offensive pet. good fuzzies with this one as it's first pet and a great victory prize for a hard boss
#4 Piranha, initially really excited about this guy, but he ate everything! no ingredient drops, boo

edit: is it peg or crab?

Same order for me. But in the end I stuck with the dumbo octopus, dunno why.
The piranha's special ability is that you get the effects of the enemies. Means: A little heal for eating normal fish and some shots if you are in beast form.
I used it about half an hour and then switched back to the Blaster peg, I think I thought shooting would be more effective than biting, even if that is wrong. ;)

I just didn't like the way Piranha pet attacked.  The reason I liked the Blaster Peg in the first place was because it was ranged.  That's why I picked it over the Nautilus in the first place.  The Piranha attacks the same way so my choice is clear.

Anyway, in terms of ranking I would go like this:

1. Blaster Peg
2. Baby Nautilus
3. Dumbo Octopus
4. Piranha

I really don't like the Dumbo Octopus very much either...just because I still couldn't see shit with it.  Sun form was just my preferred method of travel in dark areas, it lights up the mini-map.  Besides, I could just have Li and my Blaster Peg kill enemies for me in Sun Form so I really didn't need to do anything else.

didn't know the Piranha could absorb powers! will have to try that out, don't think that changes my order tho. it might be really useful when in beast mode and fishing for health

I loved pirahna pet - it was funny to watch as it chomps everything which just moves around  :D. It even ate the shrimps away  :D Blaster is also a nice pet, but it much of it's shot misses, so it's rather useful against larger enemies. I think the best pet is pirahna and nautilus - you can say it acts like a personal body shield against physical attacks and the more it goes through target, the more damage it gives  :)

I've also swimmed around a lot with dumbo octopus - it's the only one, harmless pet  :)
