Seeing in the Dardk

I know I must be missing something simple, but how do you see in the dark (i.e. Abyss). I know it must be something other than just attracting glowing creatures. Please tell me it's more than that.

All what Alphasodier said, plus you have to raise the waterlevel through spinning near a clockwheel. It is a hard puzzle, but it is possible.
