Colour Blindness Support
« on: December 23, 2007, 12:47:48 am »
Hi, A friend told me about this game and got me to play the demo, and have to admit that it seems really nice and I'm considering buying the full version, except I'm a little bit worried whether or not I'll struggle due to me being colour blind. There's already a fair amount of colour themed stuff I've encountered, as well as one particular boss fight with a wispy thing that took me a long time and seemed fairly colour based.

Just wondered whether or not it's downplayed enough that I'd still find it playable, or if there might possibly be support for it at some point.

Thanks

I *think* you could manage with some annoyance.  The reason I say think is I can't remember 100%.  As far as I can remember, most of the fights and puzzles that require you to make use of the song system also use the shapes, so you don't have to rely purely on color.  There are some plants that rely on color, but you should just be able to keep singing until you see a reaction (that one wouldn't be bad), and there's only two other puzzles that I can see being complicated due to not seeing colors well (I won't list them for spoiler reasons), but I'm 99% sure that you could still solve both of those based on other factors.

Most color puzzles actually play the sound as well so if you have a good ear, that might help.

Are you completely color blind or do you only have trouble discerning certain colors?

Most things that are 'activated' by singing the note with the same color react in some way when you sing the right note - the flowers start growing and shrinking, for example - so you can usually try until you get it right.

Singing to open the plants was never really a problem, for reasons people have already mentioned above, it was just when I got to that boss fight that I got a little worried, because while I'm not totally color blind (red-green), it -does- mean that I generally can't easily tell close shades of colours apart.. which is pretty much all of the song colours ^^ There isn't a one on there that I couldn't mistake for another, so yeah, that fight was a little tricky.

What wispy thing are you referring to?  That isn't ringing any bells for me, and I was pretty sure I fought all the optional bosses.  It should probably be tagged in spoilers, too, just in case.

I think the wispy thing he is talking about is the thing you have to beat to gain energy form
