Thanks for the workarounds. PNG did not work either and creating a photobucket account is too much trouble for an avatar icon.
The purpose of my post is to point out a possible forum bug to the admin. Setting the proper rights to the upload folder could solve the problem.

I resized it to 100x100, name was okay, it is a jpeg. Still it does not work.

Hi, I am new here and wanted to upload my own avatar picture.
When trying to upload it from a local file I get "The attachments upload directory is not writable. Your attachment or avatar cannot be saved."

Is there any way that could be fixed?

I think rollover tooltips for the map and the recipes would be a great addition.
I seriously consider buying the game after playing the demo for a few hours and this is so far the only thing that felt not right to me. Implementing that should make the game more user friendly. On my first hours in the demo I wondered what the map symbols stand for. You know, I am not one of those saying "I am not buying if you do not fix that !11ONE!!11!!!!"  but if you could add that, it would even more enrich the gameplay experience.
