Aquaria for iPad / Problems with wall jumping & the map circle

My problem is with the controls on the touch version of Aquaria. I've learned to wall jump everywhere but the Sun Temple. There, the chute Naija needs to climb is so wide that the whole upper right side is covered by the map circle. When I try to get up there, I keep activating the map instead. If I try to avoid tapping the map, I go back and forth in the chute, but I can't get any higher.
Do other players have this problem? I'm wondering if there's a way to temporarily disable the map icon.
