Actually, it turns out my bank had the transaction blocked as a possible fraudulent order and they left me a message on my old phone though I gave them my "new" number months ago.  I only check my old phone once a week or so since it serves only as a backup.

So I have to retract what I said about Plimus, and I have ordered Aquaria from Plimus and I'm awaiting validation and such.

Funny enough, Steam "offline mode" requires an internet connection. When in "offline mode" Steam still sends and receives data necessary for its operation. Also, you cannot start steam without an active internet connection and you have to connect first to enter "offline mode"  (unless they changed that behavior in the last 18 months). I've discussed this issue with Valve, and its the nature of steam where "offline mode" makes you appear offline but still authorizes your game licenses every 3 days if possible but it does it at minimum every 7 days. If it loses an internet connection it will enter "offline mode" itself but after 7 days it cannot verify your game licenses and will prevent you from playing. Valve's resolution was "wait until you have an active internet connection to play the game". I was without internet for a total of 11 days at the beginning of Janurary 2010, and for 18 days at the end of January to the middle of Feb 2010. Comcast replaced the line drop, splitter, and found a "minor noise issue" on the next power pole and ran a new line between there and my pole and stuff has been fine since. :) Even if the repair cost me $190  :o

In my case, I was able to play left4dead 1/2 for two days in single player mode without an internet connection, but after day 3, a pop-up came up when I wanted to play and told me Steam cant validate my game licenses and to make sure my internet connection was operational. I used to keep my computer running 24/7 and would only start steam when I needed it (eg to play l4d 1/2 & gmod) or just wanted to make sure the games were up-to-date.

Of course, its been a loooooooong, loooong time (in internet terms) since I've even used Steam so it may have changed. I don't know. The last time I ran Steam was to get "The Passing" DLC for L4d2 and to subsequently play it alone, in "offline mode".

Games / Re: Your first Game

Which was the first video game you have ever played?
Smurfs on the Atari (2600 i think) I don't remember exactly, it was awhile back.

Was it a video game that brought you into gaming or did it need a another game?
Super Mario Brothers (NES)

Was there anybody who influenced you? (A brother or sister, uncle, friend, whoever, who brought you into gaming)
Cousins, because they owned all the cool consoles Atari, NES, SNES, etc.

Which was the first video game you bought yourself?
Duke Nukem 3D

Which was the last one?
Ummm... Mass Effect 2... Trying to get Aquaria.

Thanks for the reply Genesis.

No, I truly despise Steam. After spending $70+ for L4D 1&2 a couple years ago, then losing the net for a week or so I was absolutely unable to slay zombies even in "offline" mode. Of course I blame Comcast as well, but it beats the alternatives (*cough* AT&T *cough*). Steam, cool concept which lured me in but absurd DRM if your internet flakes out for 3 or more days while you wait for repairs.

After that experience I decided I'm an offline gamer and will go to indie studios to look for my gaming which is casual nowadays. I used to be a pretty hardcore gamer back in the Starcraft/ Total Annihilation & Unreal Tournament (original) days.

I'll wait for an official answer.

General / [resolved] Love to buy, but can't.
« on: February 14, 2012, 12:21:01 am »
This has been resolved...

I've been trying for 3 days to buy Aquaria from Plimus, but they're not accepting my card and they (Plimus) keep dropping my calls. Besides Steam, Apple inc, and Plimus are there any other locations to buy the game? Because of such wretched handling by Plimus, I'd rather not have to fax or mail them or deal with them at all.

Thanks.
