General / Re: List your favorite music tracks

Actually, I am hoping that I can get an MP3 of "Lost to the Waves" sometime, and share it with a few friends.  Those friends (particularly female ones) often can be seduced into playing a game solely on the basis of that game having soulful music, and I think that "Lost to the Waves" would pull the right heartstrings to get them into this.

Gameplay / Re: What is the body supposed to be? Probably spoilers

I dunno', the body does kind of have a bio-mechanical look to it in my opinion.  For example, the big tubes that run along the walls and block your progress in places look almost more like organic conduits than veins.  Or the presence of faces in the wall before you reach The Creator speak to something being more grown-to-purpose and sculpted rather than simple outgrowths.

I currently work in Microsoft's SQL group.  Can you give me the name of the person that you contacted at the company?  Maybe I can give them a little gentle nagging from this side of things.   :)

Just looking at it from an art perspective, The Body seems to include influences from both surrealist H.R. Giger and the Gradius video games.

General / Re: I have found a word describing Aquaria's ending
« on: April 05, 2008, 07:07:08 pm »
I enjoyed the secret ending.  I love it when a game throws you a "curveball element" like that.  I like the way that the strange opening cutscene seems like a non-sequitor until you reach the endboss, and I certainly appreciate the hints of a sequel.

If there was anything that I would ask for, it would simply be a gamma/brightness adjustment option.  I play on an older CRT moniter and its brightness is not what it used to be, so I need some software-side aids to get it to look as nice as it is meant to.

But do you know the real reason why I enjoy this game so much?  Because of love.  With a game like this, it is clear that a lot of love went into its creation, and that makes it beautiful in my eyes.  So many games out there feel like they were tailored to fit the lowest common demoninator, try to appeal to too much of the maket at a time, and in the end feel all the more bland and souless because of it.  But a game that is built not on the basis of market demand but on the basis of the developer's love for it, well when such love is apparent that love tends to become infectious.  When the creators of a title put their love into a game, I am inclined to love it as well, and that is certainly the case with Aquaria.

Gameplay / Re: Question about Li

What I want to know is, what do you DO with him?  Is he necessary to get through certain puzzles or something?

There are quite a lot of threads about Li here, if you do a search ...
Actually, searching for articles about Li is hard.  Do you realize how many words have "li" in them?  :p

Okay, the next version release-canidate seems to have fixed the problem so far.  I will report any more bugs that I find.   :)

Okay,  the demo version works up to a point.  The game hangs when it tries to save at the first crystal.  I have seen this mentioned by others on the forums.

Contact me in real time if you wish, I will PM you my IM info.  However, it is late and I need to be in bed for work tomorrow.  Plus having a cold does not help my midnight alertness much.  ;)

Okay, I have confirmed that the demo version DOES work, just not the full one.

Do you think that I might have a corrupt data file somewhere?

Well, I downloaded the installer that you had up today, and I confirm that it is indeed version 2007.12.17.

As well, I did not download the demo.  You already had me sold from the moment I saw the first trailer, and the anticipation has been building ever since.   :)

Maybe I should download the demo then, give it a shot, see if it makes a difference.

I have been looking forward to Aquaria since last spring, so when I saw at work today that it was finished, I made sure to download it when I got home, which I did.  Paid for the full version straight off the bat and got myself a copy.  However, I felt heartbroken when I could not get my copy of Aquaria to start up at all!  I started with whatever version was current for your full downloads, and I tried patching it after my first few failed attempts to start it, but still no luck.

I am currently running Windows XP SP2, and when I start the game it gets as far as the initial loading screen then pops up a dialogue saying that Aquaria.exe has preformed an illegal opperation and needs to close.  I looked through the debug log, and it looks like it cannot find some of the graphical assets.  I have copied the last part of the log here:

Please help me fix this.  I have wandered all over this forum and not seen anyone with the same problem.
