Yeah.  You sort of almost feel guilty for playing the game for free, even though it was released as such.  It'll be nice to play it on the big screen too, and I'm curious as to what new things shall be in it.  Will it be just small things, or will there be a significant chunk of new content?  All we can do right now is wait and see... Wait and see...

It took me a while until I got a song with notes that were semi-cooperative.  The time limit seems quite short when you hit the seven note mark - it's hard to rush though, else you'll accidentally hit a different note. 

What helped me a bit - if you hold control, it'll bring up the song interface without holding the right mouse button down.  At least, it helped me be a little more accurate with it. 

Then, I tried to do it a second time, I got it a bit quicker that time, just to see if there was anything else.  I was awarding with...  a small eye.  Wow.

You mean the jellyfish creatures that float around?  Pretty sure all they are for is killing them to get a glowy health restorative, and occasionally they drop Jelly Oil for cooking.

Or there are the colored plants, that you sing the same color of, to open up for items?

Can't think of anything else that you might be referring to.

Total ripoff of tennis.
Which was in turn a total ripoff of people throwing stuff at each other.  ;D

I'm pretty sure it all started at the amoeba level, when one amoeba decided to frustrate another by hurling a food particle at it.

Alright, that just reminded me of the old Qbasic game, Gorillas.  Old precursor to Scorched Earth, two gorillas on top of buildings, throwing bananas at each other.  =P

Hmm, I'll update them again, but I just updated them maybe a week before Aquaria came out.  I'll post back if there's any improvement.  EDIT:  nVidia says I already have the latest drivers.

Now, this might just be a Vista problem, or something of that nature, but I figure I'll post this in case it's an actual issue with the game.

It seems that using Beast form for an extended period of time seems to be causing me some slowdown issues.  Perhaps it is due to the extra effects when boosting?  Not sure, but after using beast form for a few minutes, the game gets a little 'skippy'.  It's not *quite* a framerate reduction.  Sometimes, it was playing great, but then everything would lock up for just a second or two before resuming where it should.  It's a bit jarring and seems to happen much more frequently when using beast form a lot - I stopped using beast for a while, and the game started to normalize after a little bit.  I've had some very minor framerate issues normally, mostly upon entering Mithalas, but it's much more pronounced when using Beast form. 

Hmm, now that I think of it, I've had similar issues before with a different game.  I have the latest drivers, and my system is decently powerful (2 GB ram, 2.2 GHz dual core, 256MB video card) so there should be no reason for it.  *shrug*  Hmm, well, gonna post this anyway - at the very least, maybe someone has an idea why it occasionally just freezes up for a second or two.

Now, I generally don't mind negative reviews too much when they're well-written and actually bring up valid complaints.  But this just really struck me as going out of his way to find things to hate about the game.  I don't even know how he can complain about the graphics, unless his computer was running like crap and couldn't handle the game.  The complaints about the VA work sounds like he just really doesn't like the british accent.  Or is a person who insists on japanese voiceovers in games.  Guess he'd hate Dragon Quest VIII, considering a large portion of the cast features british accents.  Of course, it can be a matter of taste, but it does not warrent being called 'horrid'. 

Besides, I love the King's Field games - most people don't.  Generally receives mixed reviews - a number of the negative reviews do bring up valid complaints - the game is *very* slow paced, the controls are a bit awkward at first.  And the sheer amount of booby-traps can be a big turnoff for some.  And almost always, there's a complaint about the graphics.  (Which I've never cared overly much about - they're serviceable, and they're not *that* bad.)  But, I find the games are pretty atmospheric, and they really reward exploration well - lots of secret passages with nifty treasures to find.  I admit the games are a bit of an acquired taste.  But, some complaints people make are purely BS, like mentioning that you need to level grind for hours, when if you are even halfway decent at fighting things, you don't need to grind at all.  Though, if you're the type who has to buy out the shops, sure, you'll need to grind a lot for gold, but you generally find good equipment if you explore a bit.  And I even saw a complaint about load times when the world is pretty much seamless.  Only load times I remember are the usual - starting the game up, loading a saved game, and when teleporting.  If people are going to complain, complain about stuff that's actually valid.

So, sort of like the Aquaria review I linked to.  So, I guess any game where you get an ability to shrink your size to fit in small areas is ripping off Metroid's morph ball?  Then the complaint about bosses being Kraid or Ridley ripoffs - right after the complaint about never having a boss that you just shoot at.  Well, wasn't Ridley simply dodging his attacks and shooting the hell out of him?   And Kraid, again, shooting the bugger at his weak point.  Meh, I just felt I'd post it, and let everyone rip it apart.  Besides, wouldn't you rather hear it here than out on the streets?  *psst, you hear about that bad Aquaria review by some random guy?*  =P 

Alright, I'm out of things to say at the moment, and I'm starting to ramble a little I think, so I think I'm done here.  For now.

Gave it a 3/10.  Of course, it's a GameFAQs user review.  Basic complaint - Everything was ripped off from other games, such as bosses from Metroid or Castlevania, or the song system from Zelda.  Also, they apparently hated the graphics and the voice acting.  Actually went to describe the graphics as 'horrid' and then went to say the voice acting was 'horrid, horrid' (wow, double horrid!)

Overall, it sounds like he was just determined to hate the game.  Gotta love the comment saying that the 'Verse' is a ripoff of the 'Force'.  Did the force require singing?  And what about all those other games with 'Mana' or 'Magic'?  Those also ripoffs?  *shrug*   And the last complaint he gives, about the walljumping also shows he didn't know the controls as well - being that if you click close to Naija, she just lets go instead of pushing off the wall.  Oh well. 

Anyway, just figured I'd share this and let you guys know.  Not like the review matters any, just being a random GameFAQs user.

Escape from Butchers Bay is the only game I can think of where the inclusion of a Hollywood celebrity in development actually helped the game ;)

This game actually got me to sincerely enjoy Vin Diesel. The dude with the club is voiced by Xzibit. I can probably count the number of movie-franchise games that weren't pure marketing tripe one hand.

Ooh, I can add a decent one, if you don't mind old NES games - Willow!  Actually a pretty decent action-RPG.  Doesn't follow the plot of the movie very close at all, but it's still fun, and I enjoyed it a LOT when I was younger.  The various caverns are complete mazes however.  Seriously, make a map. 

And while I'm talking about NES games, play Magic of Scheherazade.  Mixes Zelda-like gameplay with RPG-gameplay - seriously, two different battle modes.  Typically you wander around stabbing things with your sword, but randomly when moving to a new screen, you'll get into RPG combat - you can pick two other companions (Out of 11 party members in total by the end) to help in those battles.  Certain enemy groups are weak to certain combinations of party members, who get a powerful group attack they can perform.  Throw in a dash of time travel, five chapters, kidnapped princesses, and you have a classic.  Note, it's generally best to fight normally as a Fighter, except switch to a Magician right before a chapter boss (not always necessary, but makes it much easier, and it is a necessity for the fourth chapter boss, I forget exactly what Saint does, I think it's weak all around but immune to damage floors or something like that.)

Yeah...  I was thinking about looking around for it, I remember seeing quite a few years back, a collection that combined the first three Heroes of Might and Magic games into one package.  And I think one expansion.  Though that might be a little TOO much gaming goodness right there, considering I'd probably never manage to get through all three. 

I'm pretty sure I spend more time on that demo of HoMM2 than I did some full games.

Yeah, M&M 6+ just didnt' have the same feel.  Especially when they went and moved to 360 degree movement.  It just lost something after that...   I played through VI, but was getting rather bored with it.  Never bothered getting very far in VII, never tried the rest.  I remember there's a fan-made Might and Magic game made with the Xeen engine - New World Computing granted them the use of the engine to make it.  It was called Swords of Xeen, it would never run on my computer for some reason, even though the other games did.  I ought to try it on Dosbox sometime. 

Heroes of Might and Magic - I remember playing the demo of the second game quite a lot, had a lot of fun with it.  So, I ended up buying the fourth game when it was coming out.  And it ended up being rather disappointing - it just seemed... slower and not as fun. I dunno.

Earthbound!  Seriously, one of my favorite games ever.  It's such a classic game, marred by an idiotic marketing campaign.   ('This game stinks!' was the tagline.) I'm still pissed at Nintendo for not bringing over Mother 3 (Note for the uninformed - Earthbound is known as Mother 2 in Japan).  Currently waiting for the fan-translation patch, follow the progress at http://mother3.fobby.net  The translator, besides being a total Earthbound maniac (along with the rest of the fellows at Starmen.net) is also a professional translator - he does it for a living (various anime and such), so you know it is in good hands.  If you've ever played Bahamut Lagoon, he did the translation for that as well.  

Okage - I own and beat the game.  Has a good style and a decent story, very Tim Burton-esque graphics.  Overall, I just found it a bit boring.  I didn't feel there was much incentive to exploring either.  Still, it wasn't bad, and I got it cheap.  It was a fun diversion.  Earthbound is the better of the two in my opinion though.  

Lunar.  Ahh, I love Lunar.  Many people complain, because they felt Working Designs took too many liberties with the translation. (i.e. some of the pop-culture jokes given to random NPCs, who probably said the same thing as another NPC in town)  Some think the voice acting is cheesy, but I like it.  I really like the 'Boat Song' (aka Wind's Nocturne).  Such a shame that Working Designs went out of business.  =/  Have you played Lunar 2 at all?  Even though it is 1000 years after the first game, I thought it was just as good and it still manages to have a couple returning characters (nope, not gonna spoil it.)

Mandrake42 - for Might and Magic - Xeen was the combination of the fourth and fifth games.  The fourth was Clouds of Xeen, I believe, and the fifth was Darkside of Xeen, and combined they made World of Xeen, where you could travel (mostly) freely between the two games, with some extra content available if you had both.  I was sorely disappointed with the Might and Magic games I've played past V.  I just didn't like them nearly as much.  

Hmm, I remembered a few other games that should be in here.  For newer stuff, there's the Ys games.  Out of the recent offerings, for PC, Ys: Oath in Felghana (a remake of Ys III, formerly on SNES if you remember that) is probably the best, although it is currently available only in japanese, there is an english patch in the works.  (and a leaked beta version, but I shall not help with that)  The remake successfully turned the game that was most peoples least favorite in the series and turned it into most peoples favorite.  It's classic gaming at its best.  Definitely a lot like an old-school action RPG, it's a fast paced hack'n'slash with a pretty good story and some great bosses.  Oh, and the music is awesome.  A lot of which are pretty challenging, especially on the higher difficulty settings, where besides getting stronger, they get a few new tricks up their sleeves too.  I'm currently playing through it again on the 'Nightmare' difficulty, and phew, it's rough.  And I thought Hard was tough.  It's great that a semi-big name developer (Nihon Falcom) is still making great games like this, even if they don't see an english release.  Also to look into for the recent offerings - Ys VI: Ark of Napishtim is available on the PS2 and PSP (ports courtesy of Konami (even if they did replace the sprites with polygons on the PS2 version.)  And they added a *little* bit of new content and voice acting.  Ys VI is what really got me back into the Ys games, although it isn't as good as the other two, which are PC only and japanese only.  The most recent game is Ys Origin, which I believe takes place 700 years prior to the rest of the series and has three playable characters.  The language barrier isn't a big deal with the games, it's mostly action and there's very few spots you could get stuck not knowing what to do.  Easily resolved as there are guides for both games.  Oh, also if playing japanese versions, you need to change windows region settings to japanese, or use AppLocale. There's an OLD pc game, I really enjoyed.  An indie game, still being sold today, but I believe the game is uncrippled anyway.  First exposure was one of those old CDs loaded with tons of DOS games.  Much better than those discs sold today with lots of crap on them.  It was called Excelsior (full title, Excelsior - Phase One: Lysandia)  Very old-school style RPG, you create a character, pick stats and alignment, then you can pick a class (options based on what stats you have).  It's definitely not for everyone, as the graphics are rather primative, but it was still fun, IMO.  A few years back, the creator released a windows version of the game, still shareware.  Also fixes a few bugs and adds a map (though IIRC, it's not entirely accurate, I believe two of the towns are swapped).  There's some pretty tricky puzzles in the dungeons, I remember that for sure.  Give it a shot, it's actually pretty decent.  There used to be a fan site up and about for the game, and I used to chat with the owner of the site a lot and was a mod on her forums even (slow as they were.)  It went down though, and as far as I know, it never went back up.  And holy crap, I actually found a video for the game on YouTube.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x69_TvbyMdk  It doesn't quite do it justice, sound is nonexistant for part of the video, and the rest of it, the sound is a bit messed up I believe.  No music in the game though.  Official site for the game and download here:  http://www.nwlink.com/~dberke/ex1.htm  They even made a sequel, better graphics, but in my opinion, it wasn't as good as the original.  The second one I believe imposes a level-limit which registering disables.  It's still possible to beat though, if you are *really* good and abuse the hell out of invisibility potions.  Oh, there's no manual included with the first game, iirc, but there was with the original DOS game.  If you are interested in the game, I recommend you track the DOS version down for the manual, it explains the races and spells and stuff.  Hmm, it seems to run really badly on this computer - it crashes if I try to go fullscreen, and it animates absurdly fast.  It might be better to play the DOS version with Dosbox.  Just gotta watch for a situation that makes it impossible to complete - namely, do NOT do a certain thing with the rock and balloon until you know what you are doing with it.

Meh, that's all I can think of to say now, so I'm done.

Nope, I've already tried ALL of those.  One of them successfully makes the game even SMALLER though.  Thanks anyway though, I'll just have to play it like it is.  Everything else seems to work fine on it.

I don't mind much that Vista writes stuff to weird places instead of Program Files, now that I know where it goes to. =P 

I have admin rights, just it doesn't run everything as an administrator - I can just right click and run as admin, set programs to always run as admin, or whatever I need to do without changing anything, and I prefer it that way.  At least that way, I know stuff is pretty much safe.  I'm pretty computer savvy, but I've still gotten hit with some random viruses from time to time.  (Ugh, in particular were some annoying ones embedded in a sites banner ads - I think YouTube had some issues with that a while back (ugh, I got it from YouTube more than once too), and I think I got it from Underdogs before as well)  Stuff just started downloading and installing itself on me.  Was *really* annoying, had it hit two different computers too.  I remember another that tried replacing my program files, but the virus scanner caught that.  It literally replaced the .exes of about five programs in the windows startup with its own junk.  Oddly enough, the virus made backups of what it replaced.  It made a new folder in the program folder, and stuck the original .exe in there.  How thoughtful for when I had to remove the virus. =P  Oh, and then never forget fixing viruses other family members download.  One fun one was the one that was in the windows startup and as a currently running process - virus scanner couldn't get rid of it either.  If you tried to end-task it, it'd just start back up.  If you took it out of the windows startup, it'd put itself back in.  Fun stuff.  It's like a puzzle. =D 

Pretty sure some of those would have a much tougher time doing that with Vista, at least.  And I really don't mind the slight naggings - when I run a new program that's unrecognized or want to install something, I have to approve it.  No biggie, and it can save some headaches. 

Alrighty, I'm definitely rambling a bit, and I'm way off topic.  Definitely my cue to go to bed.
