Modding / Mod Idea: Achievements
« on: January 15, 2008, 03:32:08 am »
Here is an idea - Achievements with rewards

Achievements could give small bonuses on the current and new games.

Here are a few ideas of achievements:

Chef - Cook 200 meals                                                  - Reward: Slightly higher drop rate for food (5%)
Pharmacophobia - Do not use any healing foods  - Reward: Faster healing (once you "finish" the game (get all forms?))
Treasure Hunter - Find all treasures                      - Reward: Faster movement speed
Innovator - Find all recipes                                        - Reward: Unique recipe
Pet lover - Collect all pets                                           - Reward: Pets do more damage

Support / Re: Registration on Wine? (Linux)

Thank you for fixing that Alec! I bought the game and it installs and plays with no bugs! =) I went ahead and submitted the new data to winehq's appdb.

By the way, my download link did not work; it just said (and still says): "There is a problem with the page you are trying to reach, please contact the originating website's webmaster for help(004)." I used the link from the Plimus email and found the European download which worked perfectly.

Support / Registration on Wine? (Linux)

I would like to know how I can register aquaria on wine before I buy it.

Am I suppose to install
"2007.12.07 Full Version Patch - Fixes Start Problem ": http://www.bit-blot.com/forum/index.php?topic=205.0
and then install http://www.zaphire.ca/aqpatch/aquaria-dialog.zip
register
and finally install "Aquaria 1.0.3 Cumulative Patch 2007.12.17": http://www.bit-blot.com/forum/index.php?topic=569.0

Is this correct?

Gameplay / Re: Not Buying and Here's Why

It's odd because one of the hugest complaints about Oblivion was the game constantly tells you where to go with a nice big arrow.  Mods instantly appeared to kill everything on the map and have a true "Lost in the Wilderness" experience.

This was one of my favorite features in Oblivion. Oblivion featured characters that would go to different places based on the time and day.

Morrowind didn't have this and even though there wasn't a AI schedule I found it annoying not to have one. I don't find it fun to be forced to talk to 20 AI characters or wander the country side looking for a building. I do love exploring; I would walk or ride my horse and pick herbs as much as possible but I like when I at least have the option to fast travel (or the compass or other things that kill exploration).

Aquaria doesn't have a bunch of AIs you have to gather information from so I don't think it would be appropriate for the compass to be a game feature. Aquaria has too many areas and too much fun that would be missed!

General / Aquaria + Linux = Thumbs Up

1280 x 1024 Screenshot: http://boundlesssupremacy.com/Cappy/aquaria/Screenshot.png

Aquaria works perfectly on wine 0.9.52 (currently newest)! I had to set my resolution in init.cfg to 1280 x 1024. to get it to work perfectly. This caused my ubuntu's (Ubuntu Gutsy 64-bit) top and bottom panels to show up above the game. I fixed this by adding the arrows on the sides of the panels and sliding them away when I launch the game.

I don't get any lockups or crashes in the game =) The only problem I have is that the game crashes if I minimize it. I tried running the game in a separate X (to be able to "minimize" without crashing) but I haven't been successful with that so far due to my nvidia settings not wanting to launch a new X session. Possibly a Gutsy compiz-fusion problem - will look into it later.

I completed the demo and found all the hidden treasures (except the ones kept from me by strong currents). Will definitely buy this game! $30 is a bit expensive imo but one of the very few games I can say "worth it!".

Perhaps aquaria should be released for linux and wrapped in wine seeing as how well it works! =)

Other notes:
Game did not work well on wine 0.9.46 (default ubuntu universe install; not the winehq install):
Could not save progress - gave black save bars and could not see cursor.
When targetting a creature in energy form the cursor would completely disappear when it locked on to a creature.

Was also able to get aquaria into full screen by changing my desktop resolution to 1024x768 and using game resolution 1024x768.
If I was using resolution 1280x1024 and used a smaller game resolution when I quit the game my desktop would become the game resolution.
