Support / Re: How to Download the Latest Version: 1.1.1

Whoops - I emailed Plimus this morning, then came here and read this. I'm sorry Alec - you'll probably get another mail from Plimus about my account (david.marian@...) and how I'm whinging.

I'll sit back and wait until 1.1.2 is out.

It's not a life and death issue. ;)

I started again from scratch, more to remember how to play than anything else. I'm back to the kelp forest, after exploring other areas of the map and getting creamed (lower-right from memory). And sure, there are places already where I would have marked the map, but I can wait. I've got microcontrollers to program and pinball machines to fix as well, so I'm not bored :D

General / Back to try again after 10 months

I know this has been done to death but... In December last year I faltered with Aquaria within about 4 hours. This was mainly due to the inability to annotate the map in some way - even if just to place a marker that I know means "come back and investigate" or "this way is currently blocked". At the time it got all too hard, and coupled with moving house, living with the in-laws etc, I just gave up.

I'm playing again from the beginning and enjoying it, but can sense the same problem looming. I couldn't find anything concrete on the 1.1.0 patch, but is some kind of user-driven map annotation on the cards (no matter how simple it is) ?

I dunno - I answer to my own sense of honesty. I'm a full time software developer, so I won't steal other's work. Period. If I can't afford Paintshop Pro, I'll save until I can. That said, I can understand the whole piracy thing too - how many games have I paid $AU90 for, that are absolute pieces of crap. If I had have warezed those games, I'd be a lot richer.

Once my family went to single income and child, I could no longer afford to buy everything as soon as it came out. Once I adjusted my mindset to buying on budget labels, I began to see the advantages. For example: Far Cry for $AU20. All bugs worked out. Plenty of walkthroughs if I need it. Plenty of reviews so I know I'm making a sensible purchasing decision rather than marketing hype.

Once you overcome the "I have to have it now" thing, it's actually pretty easy. Except for me wanting a damn Xbox 360 of course :D

Gameplay / Re: getting killed before picking up pearl in energy temple
« on: December 14, 2007, 01:03:19 am »
I had a bit of a hard time here too at first. Then I realized you don't *have* to be right on top of the pearl before using bind - you can actually be a fair way away from it, play the song and still pick it up.  Once I worked this out, it became much easier.

Not sure if I read this correctly or not (so my reply might be completely off topic), but you could get in touch with Tim at http://www.coldstorage.org.uk/. He did the WipeOut soundtracks and seemed to successfully release a double album internet-only.

Gameplay / Using bind song in energy form
« on: December 10, 2007, 01:14:03 pm »
I noticed that if I use bind to drag a rock around and then change to energy form, I can still drag my rock. Haven't found a good use for it yet. Is this behavior by design?

Gameplay / Re: Map Markers
« on: December 10, 2007, 01:07:07 pm »
Hmmph - I was going to suggest the same thing. My thinking was little flags on the map that displayed tooltips when you do a mouse over. Limit the text to say 64 chars to avoid too much clutter. Right-click on map to add tooltip, right-click over an existing tooltip to remove it.

General / Suggestion: separate suggestion board
« on: December 10, 2007, 10:14:24 am »
As the subject says: I think a separate suggestion board would be useful.

My UI suggestion: on the main "menu" that comes up when you press escape, make the icon for the active page coloured/highlighted so you know which page you're on.

General / The youngest Aquaria fan?

Greetings from Sydney, Australia. Well I showed the AVI to my 3 1/2 year old and now all I hear "when can we play that mermaid game and ride the seahorse"? Both of us are really looking forward to purchasing and playing Aquaria. As a full-time software engineer I know the last 10% is *always* the hardest, but keep up the good work and you'll get there.

Oh, and as others have suggested, a soundtrack post-release gets my vote too.
