Support / Re: Major issues/unplayable

Sadly, I was never able to find a solution for this problem, although thankfully since, I've had to replace my laptop and the game has been running fine on my ATI Radeon HD 4890/AMD P2 X4 955 build.

I finally bothered to come back to it recently to give the Sacrafice mod a play through, and saw my old problem post had been bumped heh.

I hope you are able to track down this particular issue, and it's troubling that more people have encountered it because it was entirely inexplicable.

I haven't checked up on this in a while; it looks like there's a new patch out, but as there doesn't seem to be any major coding changes in the new release relating to ATI graphics cards and laptop drivers specifically I'm not sure it will address the issue.  I'll get around to dealing with getting the new patched release soon and test it though.  Originally though the game was completely playable and I have no idea what caused these issues, but I'm glad to see I'm not the only person who's seen this issue, so there's a chance it might get addressed eventually.

Key things are definetely ATI mobility drivers/cards in some way shape or form though; I really wish omega drivers where still updating, and I'm wondering if anyone had luck with the newest catalyst drivers?

Updated and overhauled video and sound drivers; completely reinstalled again.  Still having the same issues so I'm going to try installing it on my fiance's computer and seeing how it works over there.

Makes me kind of annoyed though that I can't play it on my laptop anymore :/

I already did a full reinstall, and I'm considering changing back to ati drivers instead of omega (but being that other people here use omega I doubt it's that).  I hadn't thought it might be audio drivers, I'll check that out (I didn't think they could cause this kind of graphical issue).

I purchased/downloaded and full played this game a few weeks after release; it worked fine using my original radeon drivers, then eventually switched over to Omega to make the game play better on my laptop (and it did).  However recently I went back to replay the game for a fix and now I'm finding the game completely unplayable; it loads the initial loading bar slowly, then it halts and slowly tries to load the logo in and eventually crashes.

I've changed nothing from a hardware perspective, and my drivers have been updated but I'm still using omega and updated them tonight (and reinstalled the game as well, although I overwrote the original folder instead of installing it fresh).  I can post screenshots of what's happening if it would help with diagnosing the problem.  Any ideas on what I can do to figure out the problem and/or fix it would be highly appreciated as this is a personal favourite game of mine and I'd like to be able to replay it.

Thanks.

I also have some other assorted systems of varying states of repair, many of them in storage.  I have to say I've had a fall-out with Nintendo and will not be purchasing a Wii, I barely touched my Gamecube (it got less use than most of my "weird" systems), and I'm not enthused by motion control.  In fact, I haven't really used my DS for much more than Etrian Odyssey and the castlevania games (which I've given up hope on ever doing anything unique and interesting again).  I'm probably one of the few on the forum I'm sure who does not own or want the Wii, and also probably one of the few with a PS3, but I've already gotten a ton of use out of my PS3 while there has yet to be a game released on the Wii I'd play.  Eventually when Xbox 360 gets enough exclusives I'll pick it up, but for the most part my gaming PC and the PS3 have access to most of the non-sucking library besides genre's I don't play (namely FPS, sports and racing).  Folklore alone was worth the purchase of my PS3, but my fiance has gotten a ton of use out of it for Assassin's Creed, Ratchet & Clank Future, and Uncharted.  Overall though for next-gen systems I've been most impressed by the PSP, it gets a ton of use from both myself and my fiance and my library for it has long surpassed any of the nintendo systems since the SNES days.  While I'm not a fan of Sony's anti-2D standpoint (which has softened over the years), I've been dissapointed by the stagnation and lack of design improvements on the 2-D genres even with support from Nintendo.  The problem is that all the 2-D content that is being supported by nintendo usually makes use of silly little gimmicks and the actual game design hasn't improved much at all since the SNES days.  Aquaria for me was one of the greatest improvements on the "Metroidvania" style open action-adventure genre in ages and did far more for it than any Castlevania title since SotN.  It's the first to remove the awful outdated and stagnant 2-d platforming that exists in literally all of them and came up with a very fluid combat system reminicent of SCHMUPs, a platform that's taken 2-d combat to almost perfection.  I can only hope more people play Aquaria and use it as a basis for design improvements and innovation in the future of the genre.

I didn't have that happen but I just want to say: climbing walls makes me want to CRY.
I hope all the wall parts are optional because I just want to break something when I try to do it.   :'(

Yes, all the climbing outside of the water is optional outside of a few small sections in the sun temple.  The major jumping and climbing sections are for the "good" ending and extra health/costumes/treasures.

Modding / Re: Multiplayer in Aquaria

The question is with the game mechanics of this game, would co-op, or competitive gameplay be more applicable?

I can imagine some rather interesting competitive features using the game engine and world design, while co-op would involve rebalancing and recreating the entire game, but the player community would probably lean towards a co-op for enjoyment.

Gameplay / Re: Minigame (spoilers, I guess)

8 digits is technically longer than human memory is designed for (7 digits is the average human's ability to remember sequences, and hence why most phone numbers are exactly seven digits long).  Considering the speed required, the fact that the pattern is randomized (so you can practice, write it down, etc), there's no amount of skill or practice can make you overcome a memory deficiency :(  I've gotten up to 6/7 consistently and forgotten the very first digit every single time (I spent over an hour working on this).  That combined with the annoying tendency for the pattern to mimick a transformation and put you in one of your forms unable to sing or transform in time it makes for a very annoying experience.  Sure, it's only a minor bonus in the game, but it's still very annoying none-the-less and one of the few things so far I don't like about the game.

I had a similar event happen inside the sun temple, and I repeated it three or four times due to how I landed (it "glitched" and ported me way, way up to the top of the temple and falling back I landed on the exact same spot that ported me before, and it recycled).  I think it's a glitch in the coding due to the similarity of the events, but nothing game breaking for certain (and a cool event albeit disorienting).  If I get a chance I'll post an SS of exactly where it happened.
