Gameplay / Re: Cathedral boss - Did I come too early?

I had a German guy here shouting "binden binden! schießen schießen!"...
...go all Basil Fawlty on its ass...

Don't mention the war!

I can work on it as soon as I figure out how to load the original game into the editor.   This may require cracking the data file so that the raw files can be imported in.  ???

Well, I dug into the editor a bit, and had my wife look at the LUA scripting language...

However, it seems you can just load up the original game and make changes.  Unless I am missing something, that is.

Gameplay / Blowing bubbles (spoilers)
« on: December 12, 2007, 05:24:44 am »
In fish form,  your right-click action is to blow bubbles.

Do these have any purpose other than being a humorous distraction?  I've tried blowing bubbles at several enemies and none seem to react.

Try singing some songs to them.

Perhaps this is the purpose of the bones... to quickly produce 8 sea loaves so we can stop wasting ingredients.

Modding / Easy mode / Hardcore mode

When I first played the demo and later purchased Aquaria, I was hoping to get a copy as a gift for my mother.  She's a very casual gamer and mostly plays Peggle, Zuma, and other Popcap games.  After reaching the second major boss in Aquaria, it became very obvious that the difficulty was just too high for me to recommend it to her.  I am an avid gamer and even I had a hard time with some of the sections in the Cathedral.

However, with the editor it would be possible to create tiers of difficulty.  Hopefully I'll be able to adjust the damage output of the creatures and bosses in the game, and probably slow down some of the more hazardous mobs and projectile attacks (stupid trilobites... grr.)

Along the same vein, I would imagine it would be possible to create a harder difficulty by introducing more creatures and making them hit harder.  The ultimate goal would be to create a "Hardcore" mode, that works similar to Diablo 2's Hardcore mode.  You only get one save slot and once you die, you have to start over from scratch.

I still haven't beaten the game yet, I want to get through it at least once before starting on such a project.  However, feel free to post any suggestions as to which sections you found particularly difficult and how you'd like to see them toned down (or ramped up, for you sadistic folk.)  >:D

Gameplay / Re: Playing without Auto Aim?
« on: December 11, 2007, 08:11:53 pm »
I'll finish the game using the mouse+autoaim.  Then a second time with a gamepad+autoaim, a third time with gamepad+no autoaim, then finally mouse with no auto-aim.

I think that'll make a nice progression in difficulty for an already difficult game.

I found a red crystal marker in the kelp forest that is erroneous as well.  I'll make sure to get a screenshot when I see it again.

If this will happen, he absolutely won't tell how to do it...  ;P

But if he did, even if there was no way to do an 8-shot blast, it would drive you people mad searching for it.

I'd also like to see an economy in the system.  Not anything fancy, just some shops and money (maybe pearls) that drop off of creatures.

There would be various vendors throughout the world including some that sell recipes and new songs.

With X3 and X2, Egosoft did something rather unique...

They would release updates and patches, but you could only download it if you registered your copy with your forum account.

At the opening screen, you'll see Naija in the crystal in the middle.

When you click her, it should replay the intro.

In the docs folder there is a walkthrough that contains chibi drawings of Naija.  These are awesome, thumbs way up to the art team for these.

I'm curious to know if there are any others that have been made.

Getting back ON track (hopefully), I'll throw out what I'd like to see...

Where Aquaria focuses solely on the underwater world... imagine a mod where instead you are playing in a sky world.  Gameplay would be similar to Sega's Nights, but more of an adventure focus rather than an arcade game.  You would fly through the clouds, various storms, and even floating islands (as seen in the into video to Aquaria.)

I can even imagine having two branching storylines where the player alternates between the sky-world character and Naija (or other sea-being) and they eventually meet where sky touches water.

Of course, I think the thought of flying whales is both creepy and awesome at the same time...
