This is definitely a RAM issue... although, it sounds also like a memory leak.. you say your running the Mac version.. I wonder if there is a bug that Alec is unaware of.. you may consider posting a bug report about it.. not sure where you would do that for Mac though.

BTW: The only reason I know about Aquaria is because of Linux Gamers... http://www.linux-gamers.net/modules/news/article.php?storyid=2234

I noticed that since the beta was released there haven't been any new articles on Linux sites (that I browse) about it!!! This should be huge news to the entire Linux community... although, obviously this release is beta, so it's definitely understandable if the PR is awaiting play test results. I've put a bit of time into it and so far have not found anything outside of what I've seen in the Windows version: flawlessness. :P

OH! I remember the one thing I forgot!

* Controls: flawless. I use a combination of mouse and keyboard to play... I also use the EVDEV driver for both, and Aquaria Linux uses them perfectly... I can bash as many keys, and click as many buttons as I want and it works just as well as I should expect.

Thanks! :D

Hey, it doesn't sound to me like it's your video card... the game wouldn't play "smooth" at all if it were. Sounds like you're running out of RAM at certain points during gameplay when it loads a lot. Not sure, but you might try checking a system profiler when it's running choppy.

I run Gentoo Linux as my primary OS and this is my experience so far:

* GREAT installer: simple, fast, and gets the job done.

* Game launches without linking errors... always love that.

* At launch I was not asked for any information, the game just defaulted to full screen, native resolution. This should have been fine-- if I didn't run NVidia TwinView... Sadly for now I am running it in a window at the only other resolution available to me: 800x600 (this could be because of my X cfg file... haven't really looked at the resolutions I've added to my card in there... haha)

* Mods Page: all the images are white... it's a beta. lol

* Game Play: I soon noticed that I can't alt+tab out of the game to continue writing this review... should add that.

* Game Play: Fast. Smooth. Beautiful. All graphical features from original game work flawlessly. (shader effects, fades, cut scenes, animations, etc)

* Game Play: All particle systems work perfectly, and it looks like all NPCs also execute their scripts correctly.

* Game Play: Audio is great, noticed a console warning about an extension not being supported so it'll "use more RAM."

* Game: Uses a pretty consistent 30% of my 2gb of ram, from launch into game play (~615mb). IOW: Game should play perfectly on a 768mb system.

* Saving/Loading: Copied my saves from Windows, they load great-- screen shots (though, it seems to center them differently?) and all! :D

* There was one more thing... that I can't remember...

Overall, GREAT JOB! Literally, the first native Linux game I've installed that didn't do something retarded, like... not even run.

P.S. I'm sure the resolution and the mods bugs are known, so I won't bother reporting them... though, when the final version is released I'll definitely voice any final changes needed to the bugzilla linked in the included text file.

Welcome Wind Dancer! I can attest to truly appreciating this game for it's unheard of "old-school" and yet modern qualities. :D

Holy crap. Cheat Engine is like... like I'm cheating on a SNES game in zsnes... except... I'm not. I always figured this existed just never looked it up. I'm totally reinstalling and cheating on every game I've ever beat. lol

Speaking of ports, Alec-- I run the company Bitstudio Games (http://www.bitstudio.com/). I've been in love with Aquaria ever since launch (you'll notice I was one of the over-excited people that asked where it was on release day.. lol). Anyway, we have the abilities to port the game to the Android OS (Google Phones) and was wondering if you were interested in talking about it. Just send me a private message, I'm in Australia right now so the time difference will limit my reply to late your time.

Cheers!

You have my $25!

I'm also considering rebuying the game... since I don't have my receipt anymore.. is there a way to get the game again... I can tell you everything you might need to know to look up my original order.

Is the latest available update worth getting? I didn't encounter any bugs when I played through the first time... I would like to play through the game again in widescreen this time though, and I think I read that better WS support was added. Anyone know how the latest right now is? (I'm running XP + NV, so the note about Vista + ATI doesn't pertain to me at all..)

NOTE: 1.1.2 is going to be out soon, so you might want to hold off updating until then!

Any news about when this update is happening... I don't want to bother updating until this one, since I figure it should be happening soon enough..?
