General / Pixel Shaders?

Hey, I was wondering how yuo do all the fancy "water pressure" effects, especially when Naija is spinning......

Did you use displacement shaders, or something more fancy........

Thanks very much, both of you!

Yes, the main annoyance with voting is that everyone must have an AppleID, which is quite unfortunate, as registration is something that few people long to do.  :P  (We still encourage you to vote, however..... ;) )

I'm glad you both liked it.  And yes, 24-hour sprints are a necessary experience of life.

Well!  Here goes nothing!
The Insomnia Film Festival is a cinematography contest in which Apple posts a list of "requirements" at 6am PST, and all participants have 24 hours to write, film, edit, post-produce, and submit an entry. It's intense. But soooooo much fun. I have never worked on something for 23.5 hours straight before!

Anyway, here's our entry on the Apple Insomnia site. You can vote for us if you like, (You'll need to create an Apple account, but that's it!) We worked our collective butts off, and in the process, managed to make something that I have watched many times over. All music, (except for a few sound effects, such as when the Intern gets strangled) was written by us, one track even was written during the 24 hours. Most of the Sound Effects were designed by us during the 24-hour period.

Oh, and sometimes the Apple site doesn't work, so you can also see it at youtube.  Voting there does not count, however. :P  But there is a transcript, in case you really want to know what we're saying.... :P

Hope you all enjoy!

Here's another:  (It'll have to wait, though)

Development-wise, what was the most challenging part of the game?

That is so great, guys.  I'm really happy for all of you!

Are you using Dev-C++ for this project?

Yeah..... I typically don't mess too much with this Multiband Compressor preset for all my drum needs;

If you own FL Studio,  head over to samplefusion.com, click "Samplefusion"  on the left, and then download the "FPC Drumkits" samples.  Believe me, they are worth it!
There are some other good samples there as well.  Almost all of their Orchestral samples are definitely worth having.  (If you've got DirectWave, you can get even more, and from within FL Studio!)  Their "killer tweaks" and such are, (IMO) not worth the bandwidth you use downloading them.

For good Drumkits, Compression/EQ'ing is everything.  Getting that "punch", and sometimes even an over-compressed sound can really help!

Mixing and Mastering are, indeed, some of the most challenging things I struggle with.  I find that what FL Studio lacks most, is a really nice limiter.  Their Multiband Compressor has a "limiter", but it doesn't "maximize" the sound nearly as well as some other products I've heard.  (e.g. Voxengo's "Elephant".  That thing rocks my socks off!)

Other than the lack of a Limiter, you've really just gotta look around, and see what you can find.  I hear that the Flipside, (http://flipside.singingcrane.com) is going to have an FL Studio wiki up soon, and they've got some tutorials on various subjects....... AND the Demo projects, (especially "Hanging on" by Blake Reary) show some rather impressive production.......

But mostly just playing with it, and seeing "what this knob does"....... And reading the Help file, of course. ;)
