I agree, I don't think it's the best game evar but it's definitely up there in my top 10 (perhaps top 5 even). If we're talking indy games, I would probably put it in the same category as Iji and Geneforge. The thing is, I can't really say that any one game is better than every other game out there. Most well-made games deserve their merit.

I don't think that webbed feet call for scales. Frogs don't have scales. Naija is pretty obviously a mammal, so I would think that she has dolphin-like skin. This doesn't have to be scientifically accurate, because with magic the verse everything is possible!

You've gone a bit ahead of yourself here, and I have to admit I've never seen anyone so dedicated to get into the abyss before getting the proper "utilities". The fact that you go completely blind while down there and the only way to cure that is by attracting glowing fish that may or may not be in your vicinity should have been a clue that you're not supposed to be down there yet. Take the other available path, in your case Mithalas.

About the arbitrary block on non-linear progress: in this case its the darkness, not the door. And perhaps not all that arbitrary seeing how far you've managed to go. The thing about the door is that you should have seen those symbols somewhere before, and it was hinting that you should explore there more.

My interpretation is that the red "save" crystals really saved Naija's memories, and Lucien is accessing them. I agree with Align about the title screen - I think it's just symbolism for Naija's mind being trapped by Mia. 

But we've got to keep in Aquaria's tendency towards loose interpretations. It could be that Alec and Derek designed the title screen without anything specific in mind, perhaps they even made it before they thought of what Mia was going to do to Naija.
