Why were you unable to play off-line, exactly? There's definitely an off-line mode, though I haven't tried playing L4D in that manner.

After the energy temple, a lot of people seem to get stumped on finding a pearl for the door east, but it's nearby, so just keep looking. That's after you've done the energy temple though.

I never understood why people only like happy endings. For me, it's the sheer amount of emotion in a really sad ending that makes it memorable, and adding some happy note in there just reduces that.

It can be killed but doing so takes crazy amounts of shooting/biting. IIRC it drops something unique or very rare, like a red bulb.

Well yeah, but it's not really the right atmosphere to make me laugh, usually. Not to say I never even chuckle or anything, I just wouldn't call the entire game "hilarious" cuz of that sinisterness.
