General / Re: Demo Poll
« on: July 29, 2007, 01:21:57 pm »
Whether or not I'd want a demo first or not actually kind depends on the pricing. For example, if the game was $10 I'd probably jump in without playing it, but $20 or more might make me think about it a little.

Personally though, I think another really awesome trailer might do the trick. You guys sucked me in when GameTrailers posted that trailer back in February and another one that shows even more would really be fricken sweet.

I'd have to agree, if it is $10 I'd buy it straight away, no sweat, but if it starts crawling up I'll probably want a demo to make sure it is what I expect (although I hardly think it isn't  :D, so I'm guessing I would just buy it anyway just to play it noooooooow  ;)).

My (logitech rumblepad) gamepad has the same features (just more intuitively placed sticks ;D).
Rumble, right-stick, start and select-button etc.

Is it really that hard to find a library that goes that takes that extra step to actually fully utilize common gamepads? (e.g. match the X360 library functionality) I've never really worked with APIs for gamepads so I don't know, and I won't nag you to death for it either, but it would be really great to see an indie/smaller game actually support the gamepads for once and not only the X360-controller. But, if it is problematic to find a free library that fully support common gamepads then I can understand the situation.

If you fully support common gamepads it would be nice, but I'm pretty sure partial support won't keep me from buying the game either way. ;)

General / X360 controller... but?
« on: July 10, 2007, 01:43:44 pm »
I've just noticed that there is some talk of using the X360-controller, but none about using a common gamepad? (or perhaps I missed it)
I really hope you don't do as all those other games, support everything... but the common gamepads, which is essentially the same as the X360 one, except the X360 doesn't seem to use compatible drivers or access, everyone I know has one, and none of them have a X360-controller.

Some games have run with my gamepad (most common logitech one) as the X360-controller, but with greatly degraded performance and control over axis assignment.

Just to clarify my point, I don't care whether or not it makes linux, I'd rather see it released as early as possible, I'm hyped about this game  :D
And frankly I believe if you install Linux, you made the choice not to play most games, especially when many still have windows installed and refuse to boot it because it is v1rz and games are oh so much better on linux.

Anyway, assuming that you haven't spread file loading to much around the game, case sensitive shouldn't be a problem if you attack it from another angle, instead of converting all the cases, why not simply have the game list all folders on start (for linux) and then it should be piece of cake to do a case insensitive search on that data, to find the case sensitive name. Should be possible to be made simple enough as to just have a define that takes an input filename and finds the case sentitive one and returns it, and for windows the define is simply pass-through.

It's not the prettiest solution, but people most likely won't notice the difference anyway, suits those Linux users  :P
So, this is in no way an attempt to make you into developing a linux version, just my solution to ONE of the many problems.
