Wow, thank you both. I'll be sure to test these out when I have the time. :)

Thank you Hiro!

About the water level, is the height value just right after where the code says waterlevel=1? For example, "waterlevel="1", 5".
The exact code would be very helpful, if anyone has an example for me...

Modding / More modding questions...

Yes, I know... D: Please, bear with me.

1. I can't seem to get songbulbs to work. I place the songbulb entity and then I place a node on top with "seting poultice" as its name, for example. I save, reload, and try singing to it, but all it does is vibrate and then disappear without any poultice popping out (there's no sound either). What am I doing wrong? (Maybe I should try it one more time, just to make sure I'm really saving and reloading right... or spelling it right...)

2. How do you change the height of the water level? It's currently at the very top of my map and I have no idea how to bring it down lower so Naija can actually reach it.

3. Is there a way to automatically tile the background? It would save me a lot of time trying to line up every tile to cover up the water/gradient color behind.

I'll probably have more as I 'dive deeper' into modding.  :P

P.S. I suddenly had an idea for a mod... Basically you play as a Krotite, set in a time long before Naija begins her adventure. You are unique out of your kind, as you can sing, and you don't thirst for power/destruction like all the others of your kind. You want to try and stop the other Krotites from killing the Erulians somehow, and... you go through an adventure of some sort (Unfortunately you fail, and all the stuff with Naija happens while you're in hiding from the Creator). I thought this would connect nicely with the fact that spoiler there's one Krotite at the end of game, beside the fallen energy god. /spoiler
Oh, this leads me to another question: How simple would it be to replace Naija with a Krotite, for example? Would it require tons of programming or is it easier than that?

^^; I think I get it... Kind of...
Thanks anyway... I'll just have to find out for myself when I replay, I suppose.

(Actually, first of all I want to say I finished the game and wow, that was EPIC. Aquaria is easily my most favorite computer game. Thank you Alec and Derek for creating this wonderful game, and even more so for making a port to Mac. For sure I will replay this, even if it's just to see the beautiful creatures and worlds again)

Earlier on (I can't remember anymore it this was before beating Mithala or after), in the Cathedral I remember this other section where Naija said I could choose to continue or leave it until later... I, being a wimp, decided to leave it. I'd forgotten about it the whole time until I was restocking for the final boss, and went back to see what it was. When I went back, the passage stopped early, and there was tons of writing now instead (which may have been there already) that said the "AS HE CREATES, SO WILL HE DESTROY" stuff.

So what I'm wondering is what was there if you had continued on?
(I know I'll  be able to find out when I replay but I'm dying to know now.  :P)

Oh, that explains it! Thanks, Chibi :)

Edit: Yes!!! I got through that part!  :D It wasn't so hard this time, probably thanks to your suggestions. That huge mob of nautili near the end was nasty, but two good screams took care of them!
Now for some stocking up... Better than the Body for sure  ^-^
Thanks again!!

Thank you, SevenMass!
I'll give it another go  :) I was using the scream but a lot of the time it was hard for me to shoot the blue nautilus's (nautili?) while dodging them in Li-form, since they come at you pretty quickly.

One thing I didn't ever quite get is absorbing shots while in spirit form... Do you just pass through enemy shots to absorb them? I faintly remember trying that once and losing health in result (I might be mistaken, though), and since then I haven't really attempted it.
I'd like to find this out since it sounds pretty useful.  ;D

For the crab-things, I actually found it easy enough just to stay in Li-form and shoot them while swimming in a circle to avoid their shots. But your suggestion sounds good too. I'll see which one is better for me.
Gosh, I'll be glad when I get through this part.
Thanks again!

Hello, just wondering if there's any suggestions/strategies for getting through "the gauntlet" in the Body, as I've seen it being called (the long twisty tunnel before the final boss)... Is the best way simply to stay in dual form and kill everything? I've tried a number of times but the amount of enemies and the spinning fireball-shooters overwhelm me before I get even halfway through.  :-\

I'd appreciate any advice; I'm hating the Body... It's very frightening.
But the rest of the game is wonderful, of course. <3 Glad I bought it.

Modding / Can't change tile size (Mac OS X)

Another modding question. :P
Shift-C and shift-V don't stretch the tiles... Is there any other way to make tiles larger or smaller?
Other commands like T for flipping and Shift for cloning work, though.

Again, thanks.

Oh, that must be it!
Unfortunately, there is no 'Aquaria' folder in 'Application Support'...  :-\  Really, there is no 'Aquaria' folder anywhere that I can find, only the contents package in Applications... Urgh.

Thanks for the quick reply!
I've basically been doing what you're saying, Edwards, and it still has the large circle template:
I created a new black and white image in a paint program (Pixen), saved it as template.png, replaced the circle template in folder aquariatemplate/maptemplate with the one I created.
Ran Aquaria, selected mod "Template Mod", pressed tab to get the editor, selected "load level", typed in "template", selected "regen rock from maptemplate". Result: Still a circle.  :(

I've even put the large circle template in the trash and it still manages to load it instead of my own new template. Very frustrating.

Another thing I tried: Modified the mod-icon for one of the already available mods (the test map) and there was no change in the image.

I am guessing the changes won't take effect until the game is reset or reinstalled but I don't know how that would work and I do not want to lose my saved games.  Does the _mods folder need to be moved somewhere else instead of in the "resources/macinstall" folder?

Modding / Modding for Mac OS X? Can't create new map template?
« on: December 26, 2008, 03:03:22 am »
Anyone with experience modding with Mac OS X?
I found the _mods folder in the Aquaria package folder located in the macinstall folder. Modifying the map template in the maptemplate folder had no effect when using the Aquaria editor.  Is the _mods folder only used during the install process?  Does the _mods folder need to be moved? Or is there some missing step to get new information from the _mods folder?

I'm sure somebody knows... It's frustrating not having a template to work with other than the big circle one.

Thanks!
