Support / Amusing (though fatal) bug
« on: December 29, 2008, 06:16:52 am »
I was just on the screen west of the sun temple, with a fish passage, a save crystal, and a very difficult-to-make jump that nets you a legendary cake. Anyway I spent like 10-15 minutes trying to make that jump (eventually got it, took quite a few hot soups though, go me) and when I went back down I noticed that my fps had dropped by quite a bit. I headed down to the fish passage and there were tens of hundreds of those little pink critters. I guess they are supposed to be shrimp? Plankton? I don't know, they look like tiny flesh-pink centipedes and have little eggy nests of the same consistency. There were so many of them. They were literally flooding the screen. After looking at them for about ten seconds my game grinded to a halt and crashed (generic windows error message, not the nvidia thing, I think). I guess they are supposed to self-replicate if you're nearby and I happened to be nearby for quite a while. I tried to take a screenshot, but it came out all black.

Maybe something to fix in 1.1.3?

Support / Constant crashes in Vista/Steam
« on: December 25, 2008, 01:33:55 am »
I think this is a Vista thing. I purchased Aquaria on Steam a few days ago, and am running it on Vista. Previously, I had played Aquaria on a computer with Windows XP and it had run perfectly. Now I get constant crashes, maybe one every half hour or so. The screen will just freeze or turn white (music still plays though), I'll try to alt f4 out, and vista will tell me that there's a problem. Something about "nvlkvkdmm has crashed and has successfully recovered." (I don't remember exactly what it says, but it only says this sometimes)

This computer has a nvidia geforce 8500 GT. I am running it in widescreen resolution. I have vsync enabled to prevent tearing (this gives me random slowdown sometimes, but whatever). The computer I'm playing on is basically brand new (my mother's, I'm at her house for Christmas).

I am loving the recent updates (map, cooking etc). But I would also love to play my game without being afraid of random crashes! Has anyone else experienced problems in Vista?

BTW - I heard something about Steam's CLOUD service that would automatically transfer your saved games and such to different computers you play Steam games on. Is this out, does this apply to Aquaria, and do I have to do anything to make it work? If I can't fix the constant crash problem I'll just wait to finish the game when I get home to my computer with good old XP. Because this is seriously aggravating, I beat a boss and whoops crash before I can get to a save crystal.

What does that mean "also by singing"? What do you sing to the animals to make them drop stuff? :o

General / Re: Applauding the DRM removal
« on: December 22, 2008, 08:57:11 pm »
Just so you all know - a while after the game was released I pirated it. The DRM did not do much of anything to stop me. Last night I heard an improved version was released on steam for $15 so I bought it.
