Title: jump, jump, jump
Post by: gemlin on January 03, 2008, 10:45:14 pm
I am a fan - oh boy is this game fun,  and OH GOD IS THE ENDLESS JUMPING driving me NUTS!

Let's face it - I am definately not into platform games - because of all the endless jumping.

I am not normally into cheats either, but if there was one for reaching unreachable places without jumping in this particular game -  I might consider.

Sun temple - fine, I did that. That bird with the egg - one of them, I did that.  Shafts, on land, big bubbles I have done most of them  - but I would like for once to be able to walk, climb using ropes, or even fly.. !!! I am stuck in the Frozen Veil, because of the that endless, stupid, ridiculous.... [sigh]... jumping.

For furter aquaria like games - please cut back on the jumping.

Much love from an exhausted gamer with slow reflexes.. ;)

As far as I can remember, all the jumping parts are optional content. That doesn't make them any less frustrating, of course.  :)

The Frozen Veil bubbles gave me the most trouble by far - I was just about ready to bang my head against the desk until I pass out at one point. In the end though, the key to getting through this part for me was the relization that switching out of beast form makes short jumps much more controllable. Sure, the extra power is welcome when you need to cross a long gap, but when you need to stop in a tiny area... not so much.

Also, this was the single place where the look feature really came in handy.

Yeah, the only jumping bit you have to do is in the Sun temple's spike room, right? Outside that, everything else is optional.

You can actually bypass the bubble jumping in frozen veil by going in beast form, eating a hot soup, and jumping onto the ledge on the far right side of the map. With soup and beast form, you should just barely be able to grab onto the ledge.

It took me about 30-45 minutes of falling off the bubbles to even think about trying that.  :-[

An important thing to remember is start swimming the instant you hit a bubble, or you might fall through the bottom. The smallest size of bubble is pretty much worthless. And beware of interfaces between bubbles, because they might shoot you out.

Practice makes perfect...

More patience and you will beat every part of the game  ;)

Wow, that bad?
The only time I really hated it was when I would try to reach something, miss it, and end up shooting so far past it that it takes me twice as long to get back.
The gears in the top of the Sun Temple were like that. I would jump for a gear, miss it, and land in a position where I was just as far as before and would repeat the same jump as before.
Or even in the frozen veil something as simple as jumping up out of the water into the bubble towards the exit, I would miss and then dive down through the water twice as far away and have to swim back up.

Oh, and while I didn't have TOO much trouble within the cave of the ice veil, trying to get to those regenerating leeches was a pain. It's far away and the bubble is small. and falling down means you flop around on dry land and have to go all the way around to get back up.

I was able to make the jump on the right-hand side with just beast form, without any speed enhancement. Even that was easier than the way that you're apparently "supposed" to do it.

Well, inside the cave the bubbles are larger and closer, so you have a good chance of landing on a ledge or a bubble if you fall, and you can easily see and get to the next one up. Of course, there are also enemies, but that's what the save point's for.

Hmm...I didn't realize the bubbles gave people such trouble...I certainly had some trouble GETTING to the bubbles.  But I was actually rather adept at jumping from bubble to bubble in beast form without even stopping.  I got to the cave at the top of the frozen veil in one go (once I got to the bubbles that is).

Augh this topic is scaring me. I was so glad to be out of Sun Temple - and now I will have to find Frozen Veil...

Oh well, it's a fun game. A fun challenging game. :)

Which one? Maybe I missed it O_O? You're talking about last boss? =] Anyway, you don't really need to jump all the time. Either plants or just Royal Soups :) That should give you enough boost..

The jumping controls are kinda fun to me.  I like the way you leap out of the water.  Once I was doing pointless tricks like attempting to jump out and then spring off the back of an eel to try to get higher; that ended badly when I got a bit too overconfident and tried it on a swordfish.  :-[
