Title: Help identify this in-game creature
Post by: EmperorNick on January 02, 2008, 04:08:17 am
Hello folks,

Due to a childhood obsession with exotic animals I've been able to recognize (if not name) most of the creatures I see in Aquaria.
Screenshot of the angler fish is at the "tongue", just outside the entrance to the Body.
(If you're curious, the book is:)

However I have no idea what these things are:
Or why they're in bubbles, or why they shrink when I shoot them... Any help? :) You can find them in the Abyss, along the path which leads to the Sunken City. They don't seem to damage me, even when I run into and through them with wild abandon.

P.S. I don't know if this is the right place to post this topic.

I had the same thought. They look fictional though.

I think they are rather fictional, nice looking insectoids  ;) Maybe some kind of mites or something else  :)

They're also very funny, I like them  :D

sometimes I'll get damaged a bit if I really press against one, but in general they actually try to avoid you.

It's probably based off of some deep sea arthropod, but for all I know, those are completely fictional.

If it is based off of a real sea creature, Alec and Derek will know the answer.

I actually thought those were supposed to be some kind of giant sea bug eggs, and was looking around for their mama in case she wanted to eat me.  Freaked me out, lemme tell you!  Not a fan of bugs at all, especially not sea bugs. ;)

An amusing creature just got a little spooky  :-\

I tried really pressing up against them and got hurt a little like smjjames said, so they are capable of some damage.

Heeeeeeeeeeeeere momma...  :-X

Better not to search or you will find a new, horrible ingame secret  ;). Just think of it if the eggs are so big, how enormous would be their momma...  :o

Yeah, they are propably eggs with larvae inside, or those cratures just float inside big bubbles, hard to guess... Ask Alec or Derek  ;)

actually they look more like some kind of transparent shell than a bubble.

They can be a little annoying when they are trying to move away from you and end up clogging the end of the tunnel.

The transparent shells remind me of Phronima shrimp, which were one of the inspirations for the xenomorphs in the alien movies. They hollow out a creature called a salp and live inside. But they don't look like the larva in the game.

Although it looks quite different, it has many similiarities, and those "bugs" also swim in something that looks like a hollow shell. I think this little one was the inspiration  :)

Pretty awesome, it is quite similar. I wouldn't be surprised if that was the right answer!

What do you think the Body is?  ;)

Ewww, so like Eric the creator could be a giant bug (in the form of the body) and working on a new race to take over the ocean (and it would be nasty sea bugs) and that's his army out there? D: *dies*

Or aombea even :D and in the original, ie before the patch those things give Naija a lot of damage, I only ran in to one once and since then I shoot to kill. I think that when I get the patch I will need to relearn some parts of this game from the sounds of things which I quite look forward to doing.

My dream is to suddenly find a way through into a previously unexplored section so I can do more exploring...Well I can dream can't I  ;D lol

Heh heh, depends how much of the game you've played right? But I guess that having been around as long as you have you've probably explored everywhere. xD

And lol, I can hardly remember this thread but I know its old. Yaarrr!

It is the time when the corpses of old posts rise to walk among us once again! Wooooo!

Anyway, it would be neat to have a map-pack of mods made by Alec and Derek (once the salivating over Danger Mouse's mod comes to an end).

It would be an easier way to get a sequel going: somewhat like the episodic part of the Half-Life series.

Does the creator boss look anything like the head statue of him in the Song Cave?

Not really - it looks more like a version of what he could of been had he received his powers without the evil.

Is it humanoid whatsoever? Give me an anatomy summary.   :D
Title: Re: Help identify this in-game creature
Post by: Chibi on December 11, 2008, 12:42:46 am
The Creator has five forms, and two of his forms have a pretty good resemblance to the statue. (Although the first of those forms actually looks like a statue). The rest are either disqualified by a technicality (no face and / or muscles exposed) or aren't humanoid at all.

So are the Twins one of his forms or is that Simon Sez, i cant remember.
Title: Re: Help identify this in-game creature
Post by: Chibi on December 11, 2008, 12:50:03 am
What do you mean by the twins? The only parallel I can think of is the statue form with and without his face. I definitely know that Simon Sez doesn't have a twin... are you thinking about the Creator glitch that makes two of one form?

Yes that one.

I know I spent a lot of time look at this page:

http://www.lifesci.ucsb.edu/~biolum/organism/photo.html (http://www.lifesci.ucsb.edu/~biolum/organism/photo.html)

But I think there was something more specific I was thinking of when I drew those "deep crawlies."  Maybe not, though!

Wow, the angler in the pictures looks every bit as belligerent as the one you drew, Derek! I can definitely see Aquaria's roots in those photos.

I 'ave another form of your signature, Chibi

"Its a horrible world we live in," said the optimist, "Yes," said the pessimist.

I don't get it, but, then again, it took me ten minutes to get the joke in my signature. I'll post an edit once the revelation hits my brain.  :)

Um Chimera didn't you get the optimist and pessimist around the wrong way? The pessimist says the world is bad and the optimist agrees (since agreeing is positive)...
At least thats how I thought it went. Its a bit funny for an optimist to say the world is horrible. xD

And Derek, that page is pretty interesting for sure. :D
Theres even something that looks like a floating, glowing intestine...  :o

Yes the diggers have been busy again lol And yes I think the my dream is pie in the sky because the only places that I haven't been on the map are the second Ruhk nest upper right and the steep walls that I just can't climb :(

You just gave me the most epic idea ever.. :o

What if someone added a floating island of rock, floating above the surface of the water in the veil. And to get to it you have to climb the shoot on the right (where the Rukh nest is) and jump out into the air. That would be awesome!  ;D

Ah but..we can't do it since we can't load the main game maps into the editor to add something like this.  :'(

the whole thing in Chibis signature is backwards too.

Have you ever oticed that one area on the west sind of the sun temple, the rock formation ooks like a human head?

And just to get things straight, was Eric ALWAYS the creator, or after he fell in the ocean?
Title: Re: Help identify this in-game creature

That would be a great idea for a level in the sequel on the flying city revealed in the intro. There could be a window in the side of a floating rock that you have to hit perfectly in order to go inside. Good idea?

[EDIT] I was thinking of a surviving section spared by the meteorites (possibly a human temple?) Temples seem to play a big role in Aquaria.  :) Enemies could be traps laid to dissuade thieves from stealing precious relics, and these relics would be treasures.

It has sunken into the ocean though, has it not?

No hiro but that doesn't stop someone who is clever enough to actully build a mock up of that part of the veil and add the floating island or city :D

Heh heh. Yeah but thats a lot of work. >.<;

-But-!
I hear that the new patch (I havn't gotten hold of it yet myself) has all the main game resources and stuff in it for modders! If so, then thats epicly awesome and I want to start work on a new mod asap. ;D
