Title: Where to go?

I really love the game thusfar, but I am err... kinda confused. :-\ After I left the home area and ventured into Open Waters, my first thoughts were: "OMG! Where to go now?" After that I explored a bit and I've been through 6 areas but I don't have the slightest idea which area I need to explore first. Any general directions please?

Well, I found that it was generally better (in terms of progression of difficulty) to go to mathalis first, then the kelp forest.  From there you should have everything you need to get anywhere else and it won't matter.
