Did anyone ever think this day would come?! Apparently a teaser trailer is being released tomorrow at around noon CMT. This of course doesn't indicate that the game is finished or even close...but it's the first new media in years. They also released a teaser screenshot:

Tomorrow will be crazy... :P

A teaser, goodness. Can't be many years left, then.

Read a joke about this, how in Halo IV the Master Chief will remove his helmet and reveal he's actually Duke, thus you've actually been playing Duke Nukem Forever all this time :p
Take it as you will
Hopefully this won't end up like Prey (IE Really pretty good but only about 3 hours long) :p But then, I withold anything until I see at least a demo :D
-
It's out! ;D

Haha!
It actually looks a lot like Prey... I think it's using the same engine. I like it, in a cheesy sorta way. But my expectations weren't that high. ;)

Bruce Willis Much?
Will he 'Die Hard'?
Bleh.
*goes and plays Duke 1 on DosBox*
-
Damn, this is only just* too late for me to actually give half a shit about it. Poor Epic.
*ten years
-
the sad thing is, by today's standards the graphics (specifically the render of Duke in the screenshot) are very behind the times. I never expected to see it so polygonial... also, what's with game trailers these days refusing to give much insight into how the game might actually play?
-
i wasnt impressed
-
I'll believe its out when its installed on my hard drive, and considering the years of delay, maybe not even then!!
-
I think people are overly critical. Sure, the game will have taken a billion years to come out if it does, but so did TF2 and look at all the people playing it now. It's a bit of a joke, I'll give you that, but if the game actually releases and doesn't suck, I'll sure play it. I grew up on Duke for fuck's sake. I remember playing the original when the tagline from the demo was that the registered version had "Over a meg of stuff!" :D
Ah, the good old days.
Also, I believe it's using Unreal Engine 2, not Doom 3 (which Prey used).
-
I never did like duke nukem
-
Balls of Steel! :D
-
Well...let's just hope that the gameplay is really damn good, because after 12 years they should really have something original lol. :o

ATTN: 3D REALMS
After twelve years - twelve goddamn years, guys, seriously - you need to pull out something bloody spectacular for a trailer, even a minute-long teaser. That is not what this is. I didn't think it was possible without some intense CBT but I think I actually care less about this game than I did last time I thought about it, sometime in 2005. Twelve years! Twelve years. Britney Spears' entire career has peaked and foundered while you've been working on this game. Valve have significantly altered the topography of the FPS field twice over in the time it's taken you to put out an extraordinarily underwhelming teaser trailer. What are you playing at, lads. What are you doing.
-
Huh, you guys all behave like you already payed for it.
I mean, if you are still following the game after 12 years, it really is your own fault if the trailer doesn't wow you enough.
-
Are you sure it's not 3DRealms' fault for spending twelve years on a Duke Nukem game? If they expect anybody to pay money for it when it comes out, after all this time, they've got their work cut out for them when it comes to promoting it and are going to have to do a damn sight better than this. Besides, there's a difference between "following it for twelve years" and "remembering it exists once in a while over the last decade." Your statement is nonsensical!
-
Still can't beat the Build Engine in terms of simplicity :D I mean, Duke 3D was practically 2D :D
It was also still awesome.
I dunno why they didn't just work Prey into being Duke3D after all, plot's still "American Guy vs Aliens, 3D Realms' Trademark 'Interactive public Bathrooms', one liners you get sick of after a while" :p Wouldn've taken them as long
Duke still has its humor, but I do wonder if it's still fresh after all these years. He did pinch just about every line from Bruce Campbell mind :p

No, my statement stands. If you don't like it anymore, simply don't buy it. I, personally, will treat it as any other game. If it is good, I'll buy it, if it isn't, I won't. But I certainly won't expect something stunning or breathtaking just because they took 12 years. If you go at every game with that attitude, you will have hard time finding a game that doesn't suck.
I mean, 1 year or 12 years. It doesn't matter. If you didn't preorder (and pay) on Year 1, there really is no reason to bitch.

OPINIONS: I HAS THEM
-
CHECK THIS OUT:
I didn't pay for Crysis, but still think it sucks fifty dicks!
I didn't pay for Def Jam Icon, but was still massively disappointed in it!
I didn't pay for Enter the Matrix, but still hold many and varied negative opinions regarding it!
We are allowed to have and express negative opinions of products we have not paid for or preordered! Also of any media released promoting unreleased products! Also of anything we like, ever!

what part about "its done when its done" or "ive got balls of steel" do you not understand? they HAVE been working on it but only a small team was doing it. my guess is that most were doing prey at the time or working that new game of theirs. they might just get the game done sometime this decade that makes me happy

I honestly cannot tell if that post is a joke or not.

I'm here to chew ass and kick bubble-gum, and I'm all out of ass! D:<

It was a mistake to release the teaser, I think, but they said all over the place that it was just a dumb little thing 2 guys stayed up late putting together for their company Christmas party. Then they thought... hell, they did the work, let's put it on the internet. So they did. It was a bad way to break a long media blackout, but still, I fail to see why this shit has everyone so up in arms.
As for Valve, I think another 7 years in the cooker might have made HL2's design less horrendously gimmicky and reliant upon repeating the same dog tricks over and over again until they gave you a new hoop to jump through, and then maybe they'd also have an actual story with actual characters instead of a bunch of worthless cardboard props that all want to give you a blowjob throughout the interesting yet utterly plot-less series of events they wrote for us. And yet we still don't know much of substance about DNF, and the games aren't aiming to do anything similar from what I can tell, beyond both being FPS games.
So maybe we should worry less about altered topographies (and the utter failure of Valve's attempts at episodic gaming, for if you want an example of something that made me lose complete interest in a franchise, you need look no further) and just agree that DNF could be a halfway decent game at the end of the day, even if the road it took to get there was pockmarked with several very bad decisions which led to huge setbacks. It's not like anybody owes us anything. They're making a product, and I fail to see why anyone should take it personally just because it's taken so long for them to get their act together. Seriously, what's it to you? Yeah, it's bad process in development. That's a lot of wasted time and money. But everyone has a chip on their shoulder about this one, and frankly, I'm beginning to find it really irritating.
EDIT - Also, forgive me if this post is a little bitey. I'm just extra annoyed with other angst on my own boards, and some of that spilled over here.

This I had not heard! It does make me look at it as a trailer in a slightly more favourable light, but you're right, they really shouldn't have broken radio silence with this. I doubt anyone would've given it a second look if it weren't what, two years since the last peep anyone heard out of 3DR about this.
Do I come accross as taking this stuff personally? I'm really not! I just think this is a pretty lousy trailer for the world's most persisetent whisp of vapourware, and that 3DR are probably aware of the negative reputation their oft-delayed title has garnered over the last decade and should probably be extraordinarily careful about their media releases in future if they're to salvage it.
-
Agree with you completely. George Broussard said he knew some people would think the teaser was stupid, but he said he has no regrets releasing it. Frankly, I think he should. I understand being confident in your product, but maintaining a decent public face would just be the smart thing to do. I'll still have respect for him as long as he comes through with a real product after all this BS, but there does seem to be a rather weird lack of sensitivity shown to the public image at this point. Maybe they just figure they can't do any more damage than they already have?

Don't worry, 3DRealms has already said before this little teaser was released that the *real* trailer would follow "shortly".... Whatever they mean with "shortly" off course, I guess they really mean "when it's done". ;)
Anyways, I wouldn't be too sad about how this teaser turned out, it wasn't quite 'the real thing'. I actually liked the mini teaser, mainly because a lot of people keep saying it's dead as a dodo.

Duke Nukem has retarded and I've ended up believing the game will came up somelike after few years of developement. God damn, I remember the first version... And the screens were good, just like as in Turok. Why they didn't released the game that day...
I wonder how 3D realms managed to work on this one funny game for all those years...
But I will have "balls of stell" and wait a little bit more just to say what those guys are up to ;)
-
The Duke Nukem Forever that ran on the Unreal Engine II looked great and the finished trailer they showed back then had all ingredients for a great and fun game.... BUT it did already look pretty outdated graphics-wise. I think that has been the main reason why they decided, 'screw it we're starting over' .... Basically gameplay-wise it had it all, levels seemed good, some nice rail gameplay action sequences and so on. Didn't do much wrong.... still, I'm glad they've decided to go on. They could also have simply canned the whole thing.

3D Realms have managed to release like ten original Duke Nukem titles since starting work on this persistent whisp of vapourware. I am fucking done with this.
