http://bit-blot.com/files/aqpatch_1_0_3.zip (http://bit-blot.com/files/aqpatch_1_0_3.zip)
I didn't have the means or desire to do a full run through, so there's a chance I may have broken something. I tried to include everything that might of changed.
One of these days I'm going to join a game development team so I don't have to do everything myself!
Oh wait...
If someone could test out the patch for me that would be great! ;)
To install, navigate to "c:\program files\aquaria\" (or wherever you installed the game to)
Backup your existing "aquaria.exe" by renaming it something (like "b-aquaria.exe")
Extract the contents of the zip file to that directory:
* aquaria.exe
* data.001
(note: if you have older patches, this one will replace data.001. that's expected! it has the stuff from the last patch.)
If you run into problems, let us know! Thanks. :)
Changes: (spoilers)
* fixed frame rate dependency w/ Mithalas boss suction attack (might affect other areas of the game)
* fixed mama turtle flying away
* fixed predatory tunicate crash w/ nature form vines (abyss eater enemy)
* got rid of an excessive debug output thing
* fixed **, dual form + plant gate bug
* removed: ** attacking monkeys
* removed: ** attacking sleeping starmie
* fixed predatory tunicate crash with killing enemies / collecting health
* sea turtles are now invincible to biting
* forest walker is invincible
* active menu section in ingame menu is now slightly more opaque than the others
* shark, leopardshark, tigershark are now affected by currents
* added map tokens for mantis, mergog and king jelly bosses
* sun temple gear hint can be replayed
* form abilities are now blocked while on an "active" spot (i.e. glowing cursor)
* blocked entity and node activation in spirit form
* song cave note rocks light up when corresponding note is played
and
* probably some other stuff that i forgot to make a note of
-
I already have a data.001 from the last patch, should this be a data.002 or does it include the contents of the last patch?
-
It includes the stuff in the last patch(es).
-
Haha, I wanted to mention the Forest Walker, but eating him was just too damn hilarious xD
-
I dunno what a starmie is, but if its the big abyss fish with a lantern over its mouth, someone absolutely still shoots it and wakes it up.
I renamed debug.log to debug.log.old and played for 40 minutes and my new debug.log is twice as big as the old one :)
-

Why would we call an angler fish a starmie? That'd be pretty stupid.

Is there a particular message that gets repeated? I only removed one repeating message from one part of the game.

They are these starfishes in the Veil regions, that sleep in the background and come at you if you wake them up.

no, I was about to edit and say that on further examination, it was my own fault because this session I loaded from two savegames, and last session I did not.
I mean, there's lots of stuff you're probably aware of:
"ID conflict between mutilus and mutantnaija"
"luaScriptError: mutilus : postInit : attempt to call a nil value"
"cannot open scripts/maps/map_finalboss.lua: No such file or directory
(error loading script: scripts/maps/map_finalboss.lua from file [scripts/maps/map_finalboss.lua])
Could not find script file [scripts/maps/map_finalboss.lua]
"
"transturtle : attempt to call a nil value animationKey"
but none of this seems to affect game play (except maybe the finalboss one, I didn't try to re-fight him this section, but my savegame was right before him)
-
Yeah, those are just warnings, mainly because some entities don't define callbacks. (which is fine)
map_finalboss just means there isn't a map script defined for the level "finalboss", which is also fine.
-
* added map tokens for mantis, mergog and king jelly bosses
I only checked king jelly, but there wasn't a map token. I went to the cave again and still there is no map token. That means that you only get a token if you haven't already defeated the boss, right? So we (hardcore players ;)) can't get these tokens. :(
-

Yeah, you have to actually beat the boss to get them.
-
One reason more to play it again. :) (but not now)
-
* fixed predatory tunicate crash w/ nature form vines (abyss eater enemy)
good, now maybe I can kill those annoying predatory tunicates with those briar thorns. At least they look more like briar thorns and some people call them cacti.
* fixed predatory tunicate crash with killing enemies / collecting health
Which bug is that one? just wondering, but anyways, those tunicates were annoying enough.
* forest walker is invincible
lol! so I guess they origionally weren't intended to be eaten.
Anyways, maybe you could add documentation of all the major fixes in the download? just wondering, although we don't need to know every single thing, like fixing a few pixels on a sprite for example lol. I mean the really small stuff we don't neccesarily need to know, unless its related to a bugfix, dunno.

I must say I'm impressed by how quick things in the games are getting fixed. It's like oh yeah I got this problem , within 1-2 days it's already fixed. Normally it takes at least a month for fixes.

Help ! I installed the pacth and lost all my saved games :o(
I checked and my save folder is now empty !
Does anybody know why ? I mean, I have no hope of finding them back, but at least, I don't want this to happen again in the next patch.
By the way, this didn't happen with the previous patch but i also lost all my demo savegames when I isntalled the full game. I'm running vista btw.
Thanks
Xavier
-
If you're running vista, your save files just got moved somewhere else. (cause Vista is weird)
There's a thread explaining it somewhere...
Here's one (http://www.bit-blot.com/forum/index.php?topic=464.0)

um, I have windows Vista and when I put the patch on, I didn't lose my save files. Of course though, the settings could be different or something.
Anyways, I'm gonna go see just how to kill those annoying predatory tunicates, now that the crash is fixed.
-
WHY! Why can't I kill the monkeys anymore!? I HATE MONKEYS. Drown you little buggers....DROWN. Anyway, rant over. (I actually love animals, just not monkeys, it's a thing) I'm glad you fixed some peaceful or large creatures being eatable. I oft wondered why that was allowed considering they're so big.
-
All kinds of awesome. Thanks!
-
Does this patch apply to us who have the demo version of Aquaria?
-
Nope.
-
Very quick and very good. Thanks for the patch!!!
Will mouseover for recipes come with the next patch then?
-
removed: ** attacking monkeys
AWww :p But that was hilarious. I wondered if there was some sort of dark history between the two that spawned such aggression :D

Maybe Li is creationist? :D

After dropping in data.001 and the new exe, and running it, it seems fine...
But I've noticed that the Bit Blot logo sequence before the title is now missing the dragon and windmill from the landscape.
Were those intentionally removed or should I take this as a sign of other things possibly not working?
Edit: Wait, there it is now. Weird.
-
Yes, that's right. I've also noticed (in the Demo version) that that happens as well. Layer issue? ???
-
The BB intro stuff changes randomly. Its intentional.
-
I realized that after posting and playing around, it was just patch paranoia setting in.
Let me take the opportunity to say that this is a fantastic game and I'll remember it fondly long after I'm done with it...because it'll take me a while and a few distractions to find the proper feedback thread to gush in.
-
The demo is broken :(
I got a recomendation to try this out by a freind (and hopefully buy it afterwards) so i downloaded the demo.
I got this message in debug.log:
DSQ init
Mipmaps Enabled
DeveloperKeys Disabled
VoiceOvers Enabled
Init Graphics Library...
I read another thread were you've fixed this error, however it seems that the demo is a bit old :(
2.4 ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
2 gb ram
Nvidia 8600 GT
(Macbook Pro 2.4 ghz, currently in bootcamp).
Yeah, please fix this, my freind totally freaked out over me not having played it yet. It seems to be a great game. However i am a hard time osxuser, i don't know how you handle the copy protection, but i read that ambrosia software will do it. I believe they have their own copy protection. However, i hoped that you could fix so the same serial or whatever system you use work on both systems. So if i buy it to PC i would be able to play on Mac. It would be a shame otherwise. It is after all SDL based so it shall not be a single problem porting it if you aren't using windowsspecific API's and headers.
However, please fix the demo or give me a patch to the demo here. Thanks for being unique and making great indie games that people enjoy!
-
I can't install this patch cause I like killing monkey's too much :(
If you really want to stop us doing silly things like killing monkey's, you should put "violence against innocent creatures" as a tick box on the config page! Personally, I wanna kill furry animals.

Read Alec's fix list again. ;) You can still kill them. The only thing that got disabled is that Li is automatically shooting them. :)
-
Yeah, you can still murder the hell out of monkeys.
-
Heres What My Screen Looks Like In Various Menu/Loading Screens. It's Totaly Frustrating. And Yes I Installed The Patch To See If It Helped And It Did Not.

Do you have the latest video card and sound card drivers for your machine?
-
Yea I did, its funnie cause a week ago i was playing fine then now i get a day off and its like this lol. I reinstalled the game and everything ( Full Version ) but still, even the demo does this. is there something else besides the video drivers i need to install. i fiddled with the settings to see if it does anything but same conclusion. can you give me any instruction. or some fix.
-
Hmm if it just changed "out of nowhere", something must have changed on your computer. Like drivers, hardware, something like that.
-
funnie thing, Today I Set My Hz to 60. Then i sead to myself maybe i should set the video settings to there defaults. I did then it worked. I think theres a BUG in the nVidia Control Panel. I went From 163.75 to 169.21. Naughty, Naughty nVidia Fix Your Stuff. LoL.
So Now I Set It To What i had When I Played Last Week, Runs Fine. 85Hz Rules.
-
Yeah, there is a problem with Nvidia control panels since the few last versions. I've noticed this on my older computer with GF2 MX 400 with the newest drivers, when I tried to run Warcraft III. Same problems. The most funniest thing is that now I even can't deinstall the drivers, because everything keeps crashing every time I do so. Even special apps designed to get rid of the drivers manually didn't helped so now it seems that the reinstall of whole system is everything whats left with this problem. But it gets more wicked. When I installed the newest drivers for my new pc, with GF8600 GTS I had many more issues with the panel on my new pc, mostly small bugs but irritating ??? It seems that each time Nvidia tries to fix older problems, new ones appear :o
In that case we have nothing to do with this. At least, now we now what's the main problem ;)
-
Yeah, you can still murder the hell out of monkeys.
So long as the deep sense of shame is intact, I'm happy. ;)
-
Not to me, I dun like monkey anyway, I love killing those little bastards.
-
Just set Image Quality to HIGH. Should appear normally..

I wonder is it possible I can finish the game without the patch? I mean playing v1.0.0 only, any serious game-stopping bugs?
-

Not really, but why should you do that?
-
Why not?
And yeah, it's possible, I did it myself. If you just keep doing normal things and don try to do things the hard way, like trying to pass stuff which you shouldn't/can't pass, you're alright/

thanks...glad to hear that...i had problem with the patch, crash my game! so i will need to play the original v1.0.0 version only...

Did you install the patch correctly?
I believe there are full instructions in the original post. but you have to actually copy the EXE and the .001 file to the directory where Aquaria is installed. Some people forget to do this.
-
I'm running XP and was looking for any recient patches. I saw that you mentioned 1.0.3. When I run the game that's what it says I am running. Do I need this update or is there a newer one available????
Also....I downloaded the 1.0.3 patch to see what was in it and found that the patch conainted a data.001. Your instructions say to replace the existing data.001 file with this one.......the problem is the only data.001 file on my entire computer is the one in the patch. The Aquaria folder has a data.000. Is this why it seems that I can't access some areas of the game (Sun Temple and some areas of the Veil) or that I missed another patch somewere??????
Thx.
darrmik
P.S.
Love the game......purchased the game about an hour after playing the demo.
-
If it says 1.0.3, you have 1.0.3.
You might want to reinstall the game if you have troubles with content, although it sounds like you may just be stuck in the game and not actually missing data files.
-
So, even though the patch has a data.001 that is supposed to be copied into the directory over the existing file and my version only has a data.000, there's nothing wrong with my install?? or would it be better to reinstall???
I only ask because I was wondering if there was something that I was missing, not that I am having any problems with the game.
darrmik
-
Only patches have .001, the full versions don't. (because everything is just in .000)
If the full version that you bought was 1.0.3, you don't need a patch.
-
I read about the patch on another forum and was dismayed to find that the infinite food glitch (where you hit esc just before the food appears) is removed in the patch. Please tell me it isn't true! :( I couldn't have completed half the bosses without it ;)

Well, then you have to improve your playing style! ;)
-
That must be why it doesn't work for me then lol
Chibi if a 59 year old can hack it then so can you don't be a wimp :p
-
Yeah, the most hacking I've done was through Task Manager (to give me the WIndows XP desktop instead of the windows 2000 filter)
BTW: Whoa wait a second ... the patch was sent in 2007. Does that mean that my version (bought in august/september of 2008) has the patch? If so, it doesn't kill the glitch! Yipee! ;D
EDIT: Whoa. Slow down a bit. :) (look down for a better explanation)

I don't know how you worked that one out Chibi?
-
Sorry for being obscure: I don't know if this is right, but I'll clarify it in bullets
1. Last patch sent out in 2007 (One which supposedly negates the glitch)
2. My version bought in 2008 (and should have the patch inside)
3. I can still use the glitch in my version
4. Therefore, the patch must not kill the glitch, and the rumour is a lie! ;D
EDIT: notice something strange about the subject heading on this post? "Grins in anticipation" ;)
-
Ooo who's being clever now ::) :P Sorry the original start of the thread is what counts Chibi lol

ooo, Chibi, you might need some ointment for that ~ burn ~~

Unfortunately Chibi the world is a hell of a lot older than us so that leaves very little that is really original, even for us babyboomers that lived throught the 60's... :(

The starmie cracked me up, direct pokemon reference is a bit of a risk.

If you're running vista, your save files just got moved somewhere else. (cause Vista is weird)
There's a thread explaining it somewhere...
Here's one (http://www.bit-blot.com/forum/index.php?topic=464.0)
very buteful ,

OK my computer is messed up, running windows 2000 the game worked fine (yes i know that is an old OS), then i copied it to my flash, upgraded my OS to win XP service pack 2, now the game lags like hell!!! even in the intro? can anyone explain why?
-
I'm not sure why you posted that here, but...
Have you tried updating your graphic drivers?
Have you tried putting Vsync on and off?
Have you tried changing settings at all?
