You guys NEED to contact Nintendo and find out information about development. Once this game is out, you should be able to register as an official Nintendo developer (www.warioworld.com (http://www.warioworld.com)). Nintendo has pledged to support indies, so if you could get a playable build of the game to present, I'm willing to bet you could even get some funding.
-
Dude, that's cool. Man, I wish I were as awesome as them now too. I'm kinda jealous.
-
It would be perfect for Xbox Live Arcade as well. The XNA program is specifically built for indies.
-
All the next gen consoles seem to have programs for indies. So I'd say they're all possibilities.
I think Aquaria would feel more at home on the Wii or X360 than the PS3 at this point.

Yeah, way to go, since nobody here can afford one. XD. The Wii's are all pretty much out of stock too.
Dude, I wish I could make games, then I could do these things too.

Indeed, Live Arcade is definitely an option . . . though it might be cheaper to make it for Wii :D The Wii controller also seems to be a perfect fit for the type of gameplay found in Aquaria.
-
If this was Built for the Wii it would be so amazing, I think I might get it for both Wii and PC.

Imagine how many who would? I know I would myself, but I don't got a Wii.

Oh you must Buy, beg ,borrow (dont steal) a Wii, you must.

The PS3 is a beast to program for, even worse than the PS2, so it would be a big task porting it to the PS3. XBOX360 would be easy, Wii would be somewhat more difficult, but the game would definately be perfect for that platform. :)

Well, I do think you're quite right. I heard ansty things about the PS3. They're making up for it, though, with other things like this HOME dealie. I don't think you could make the game big enough, though, for that.
-
Obviously, you'd have to make it playable with the wii remote. Everybody with a wii has a wii remote, but not everybody has a classic controller. You know, maybe it would be better if you could offer it on the wii/xbox360/ps3 network, but also as an extra game bundled with one of the great games coming out for each of these consoles. That way you would reach the biggest audience(together with pc of course), but I'm not sure if it would work as those companies would probably demand exclusivity for their systems, which would suck.
Although exclusivity usually helps selling more of your product, I think.
Either way, I will buy it for pc so I'm not really fussed about this game being available on Wii, personally.
-
You can sync the Wii remote to your computer and capture input via some open source scripts that are widely available.
www.wiili.org for some more information. Most of the script examples are written in python, but should be easily portable to LUA.
Your game would really only need the pointer functionality (which for your control scheme, could potentially work alot better than the mouse does).
If after you release the game for PC, it may be worth fooling around with to kinda get a feel for how it would work as a wii title. And you wouldn't need anything more than bluetooth connectivity for your dev machine and a wii mote.
-
As a Wii owner I'd love to see this ported to Wii. It does look like more of a console game than a PC game at the moment - and that's a very good thing. The amount of time I (and, I've been noticing, more and more people in general) have to spend on games is frugal at best, and is restricted to the kind of casual gameplay that the Wii offers. Besides that, I'm a grownup now ( :o ), and my tastes are more for instant gratification than some crazy deep level grinding monster like, say, Oblivion (although that does look like a lot of fun ;) ). I don't have the time to commit myself to that sort of thing.
Aquaria looks like it will be the best of both worlds; simple to pick up and play but long and gratifying without having to spend hours at a time. Here's hopin' :P
-
As a recent Wii owner and having also a bluetooth dongle for my PC, I can see how this game would be amazing with the motion control scheme. It looks incredible.
GlovePIE and the scripts are very easy to write so I'm sure somebody will have one done in a couple of days of when Aquaria gets released :) (or maybe I'll do one ;))
-
honestly, i think this game would be more at home on the DS, the Wii just doesn't quite feel right for 2d adventure games to me
-
But I highly doubt the DS has a decent enough OpenGL implementation. You'd be better off with a PSP! :O
-
Aquaria DS would use a different engine / scenario. It wouldn't be a straight port.
-
oh man, with that terrible analog stick on the psp, i'd hate playing something like this
-

Yeah, that's about the only thing that Aquaria could suck on.
-

I totally disagree, the analog stick isn't terrible at all. I would be cool having Aquaria on the PSP, but that would require a remake (port) too I guess.
-

Yup, but Aquaria is played only with the mouse. If the Wii Remote can easily replace it with it's pointer, I guess a Joystick might kill the gameplay since the game wasn't made to be played with it.
-
The game is also playable with the keyboard only, keyboard + mouse and X360 Controller for Windows. The X360 controller works and feels great!
-

:-\ Why another scenario?
I would understand that it changes somethning in the graphics, but in the scenario...
-
We'd like the DS version to have a different tone. So it might be a different story, slightly different gameplay, etc.
That is, if we even get a chance to make it. :)

The game is built around a Xbox 360 controller as well. I'd like to see this game on XBLA Alec. :) It's perfect for it.
-
Indeed...
...oh wait, what's this (http://www.destructoid.com/nintendo-to-announce-wiiware-offer-original-downloadable-games-update--33789.phtml)? :O
-
You guys are up to something with the Wii, aren't you!
-
:D
(I'm not fond of single-smiley posts, but there we go.)
-
I think a DS game would be perfect. Just imagine the touch screen movement. Are you serious about this?
Anyway, we'd get the chance to get two different games with the different scenario for DS, that'd be nice~
-
Man, we'd love to do a DS game, but its up to Nintendo, not us.
Who knows...
-
Yay!!! ;D DS would be awesome!!!
-
During the last E3 we didn't heard anything about this mysterious channel.
They are only talking about the new one, competition of Miis :-\
-
I haven't really followed the news but I think connection between the Wii and DS will be possible in the future just as the current connectivity between Gamecube and GBA.
You'd be able to link your Aquaria DS version to your Wii o.o!
-
I think the problem with doing the game via WiiWare is space constraints. Unless Nintendo decides to release an HDD attachment or allow HDD USB support, I don't see a game as large as Aquaria really fitting on that 512MB of flash memory, and even if it does, it'd take up the vast majority of it. If you guys wanted to go the Wii route, I think going with a disc release would be the best option. You could probably secure a deal with a smaller publisher like GameCock or O3 Entertainment quite easily, especially if all the work you needed to do was port the game over to the system.
-
With the Wii Remote alone you could have two input options, play via the IR (infared) and A and B button, or you could flip it sideways and (HORRORS) use the d-pad and 1 and 2 buttons.
furthermore every Wii comes with ONE nunchuck attatchment so you could have the joystick on the nunchuck be the direction input and use either A and B or C and Z for button input.

the beauty of the dual controller setup would be that you could move in one direction, and fire in a completely different direction. Though i think that'd make the game a lot easier and take away a bit of the cool feel that you aren't controlling najia, but just giving her directions from an outside perspective
-
I'm still checking kotaku for that exclusive "Bit Blot joint NST, relocates to Redmond"
They could spare 6 of their 80 digipen alumni/NDS programmers to bring Aquaria to the DS and Wii-ware.

Are you aware that you can use the keyboard to control Naija as well as aim/shoot with the mouse? It's the exact same effect and yes it does exactly what you say. It's still nothing new.

a wii just entered our lives and now am freakingly curious about the possibility of Aquaria ported there, is that a possibility? or drool over the videos of people bluetoothing the wiimote on their pc is the closest option?

There's a chance.... we'll see!

I sadly do not own a Wii, I'd love to play Aquaria on it. I do own a DS, but I doubt it's easy to port Aquaria to it, so I won't ask for Aquaria DS. ;)
I think it'd be more enjoyable to play Aquaria on the Wii than it would be on a Xbox 360, to be honest. I myself love playing games with a controller, but Aquaria would feel unnatural to me without the Point & Click interface. It might be just an opinion, but hey... On the Wii you have the choice to use the Wii-Mote+Nunchuk or a controller. On the Xbox you can't decide this for yourself.
-
Well, PS3 also has some tilt sensors and stuff that might be usable by aquaria that we shouldn't forget.
Really the best thing would be aquaria for all consoles! O0
-
The best fits for a game of this type would obviously begin with a DS port. If anyone here has played Zelda: Phantom Hourglass they will know that direct control of a character is entirely awesome using just the stylus.
Also, to everyone poo-pooing the PS3, please have a look at some of the seriously wonderful titles available on the PSN and listen to what some of the developers have to say about Sony's support for such endeavours. There certainly seems to be a lot fewer constraints on size and user-generated content than on the Microsoft side. They have also proven to be extremely enthusiastic supporters of creative freedom.
Microsoft's size-limit on XBLA titles puts many devs off, especially if they don't have the backing of a Capcom or Konami to get them to relax the rules in extreme cases (like Castlevania: SOTN and Bionic Commando: Rearmed). Their aversion to letting the modding community have access to anything XBL related also gives many pause, especially in light of how good Sony has been with UT3 modding and the coming ugc-fest that will be Little Big Planet.
The WiiWare service certainly looks like a step in the right direction for Nintendo, but the lack of a hard drive on the Wii and the fact that the service is untested in the wild are unknowns that give one pause but that will hopefully both be elucidated as the service grows.
That said, Aquaria is one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. Please keep up the tremendous work!!
-
I actually think a DS port would be nice if you think about moving with the stylus, but how would songs be handled? By pressing L/R while drawing on the screen? It's possible, but I myself am finding that a bit uncomfortable to perform myself when I play DS-games. (And yes, I've played LoZ- Phantom Hourglass, that's why I know.)
The PS3 might give some good options too, but as far as I know a PS3 port will be far off due to all the hard coding you need to do. As stted earlier, the Xbox 360 and the Wii have easier portability options (coding and stuff). I'm not against a PS3 port, but I doubt it'll be there soon if made.
Really the best thing would be aquaria for all consoles! O0
Agreed.

I'd say Graphics. But that could be lowered if it's on a DS, then it would be the map data.
EDIT: OR of course the engine, don't know that either.
-
Well looking at the tech demo he had going, I don't think graphics would be that bad (that chibi naija was ADORABLE!) and then you're right, it's just map data. I think it's perfectly doable.
