Title: Amazing jump of crazyness! Includes screenshot (may have *slight* spoilers)
Post by: Drift on December 13, 2007, 11:18:34 am
Hi guys, thought you might be interested, soon as I got to the surface area, I decided to start attempting to leap to places your not mean to get to, well, this map is the result.

As you can see, the white area is the area I've explored, and you can see me up in the air there too. So, I managed to leap rather high, I'll be uploading a video later for you non believers. Does anyone know a method to compress a video file other then windows video maker or whatever it's called?

EDIT: Both video's now uploaded

haha, very awsome :P but you'll know for sure soon as I get this vid uploaded <_<

trouble is windows movie maker aint working, and I took the vid using fraps, and this virtualdub program says "asf file not supported" when I try to load the vid file :S.

The uncompressed version is 30mb for like 10 seconds

Fraps should capture to AVI, right?

Take the AVI into VirtualDub?

Also w/ virtual dub you'd probably need the XVid and Lame MP3 codecs.

haha nevermind I did get it to work, quality didn't come out too well but it compressed nicely and you can easily tell whats going on. I'll be uploading now, I have 2 videos first is 2mb second is around 4mb so they'll be up soon as I find a host and such.

EDIT: Will be ready in 2mins :P

EDIT AGAIN: my god, I just finished uploading it, and then the site goes and says something along the lines of "sorry can't host your file as your not registered!" Wouldn't it have been easier and simpler to tell me I'm not registered and it won't actually host my file BEFORE wasting my time and uploading it <_<

and now I've finished registering and it goes and tells me I can't acctually upload anything till next week, wtf is wrong with this host! *finds another host*

Use www.willhostforfood.com free upload until 100MB, no registering, no ads, just works :)

Can't you just use the Tube?

thanks for the link, already ended up using rapidshare though :) And hadn't thought of youtube really... never used it before.

Anyway, I've modified original post with download link, uploading second file now, I haven't actually shown how I did it, just the actual fall, if anyone wants me to spoil the speculation and fun I suppose I can upload another video showing how to pull it off :P

whff is much better than rapdshare, because you have no waiting time and don't have to type in some weird code. ;)

After literally minutes of navigating and negotiating with Rapidshare, we don't even get to see how it's done? ;)

lol! now wouldn't that spoil the fun? :P

I'll stick a vid up on youtube showing how if you guys want, but fraps only allows 30 seconds, does anyone know any other software to record vids?

http://camstudio.org/

You can try this one. It may really drop the FPS, though, I never really used it for games.

Oh, you tease.

haha! I really am trying to get some footage of how to do it, but I got no software to take it, Don Andy recomended camstudio but it doesn't seem suited for games :(

I know this is a tad hypocrticial after I went and yelled at a bunch of peeps on a forum for sharing illegal copies of aquaria, but I have tried obtaining a cracked version of fraps (I'm not gonna pay for it when I'm only going to be using it once <_<) but some copy protection/glitch on my PC stops me running the full version anyway.

If anyone does know of any other software to record ingame footage, please speak up!

I have not tried this, but you might want to look into Taksi.

http://taksi.sourceforge.net/

I found it on Open Source Alternative.

Haha.. I had this happen once. I was in the veil, and I'm not sure entirely how I did it, but I actually ended up getting teleported into the sky. I have one big line across the sky unlocked now =P

haha! yah thats it Ian, it's 1:30am so I'll grab that software tommroow and try getting a vid showing how to do it. We need to start a petition for Alec not to fix this bug, it's pretty damn cool, wouldn't really happen in normal gameplay but once you know how to do it can pull it off rather well lol.

I didn't see this thread and started a similar one in Gameplay:

Had the same glitch and loved it:

hey ryan, bit of a prob, while capturing video it lags the game, which seems to stop it working. I'm guessing the trick requires some clipping, and with the lag introduced by ther vid capture the game doesn't run fast enough to do so <_< least thats what I think is happening.

I got some smaller jumps, but couldn't capture a full fall from the top, I'll have to put the vid files together later on as I have to leave now. I may kinda cheat and hook the failed attempt with the start of one of the falls, it shows how it works and should have happened if it wasn for the lag :(

Or if you have a digital camera or camcorder, you could record the monitor.  Bad quality, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

Actually, I had this myself too, by accident. When in the right area there, like shown on the picture of ryan you see there's a rock there, First time I got there I fell under the rock and then came falling from the sky, too bad enough this only happened once to me, I tried doing it again multiple times, but I was just shot out of the wall a bit higher above the surface.

It's all in the angles :P

My PC crashes every time I try adding video's into video editing software, ANY video editing software, it's rather annoying :(
