Title: PLEASE ADD A quick quit option
Post by: 2disbetter on December 12, 2007, 11:53:37 pm
Please make it so I don't have to confirm twice to quit. It would be nice to have a quit to windows/linux/osx option from within the game.  Playing at work, I often need to quick quickly. I'm almost been caught several times. Hahaha.

There's already two:

CTRL+Alt+Delete

and

Pull out the Power

Hahaha...

But seriously.

What would it be? Like holding down a key while pressing quit?

I would say more like "Quit to menu" and "Quit to OS" when you hit Escape in the game.

This.

I mean it's a small grievance, but would be nice to have a faster method of leaving the game.

CTRL-ALT-DEL, is like saying to crash your car when you want to turn it off.

Yeah, that's why it was a joke! :)

:) I thought I was busted a few times when my boss walked up behind me a few times. I've had to open programs a specific way so I can just alt-tab to switch to a app that would cover the game.

So far it's kept me out of trouble.

Like I said not critical, the game is amazing, just if something if you're bored that shouldn't take too much effort to encorporate into the current build.

Oh like a boss key (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boss_key)! That'd be cool.

Hahaha now the truth comes out!  What he really wants is a boss key, not a quicker way to exit :)

Boss key is much better, so you don't lose your progress :P

in germany we'd say "du bist deutschland" (~ "you are germany") like the huge state campaign here which was trying and give us all some self-esteem to finally get active instead of mourning about how bad everything is.

now, some years after the campaign the claim is SO perfect to comment all the guys and gals fucked up on workophobia as well as those who have a job and manage to do no work at all. fuck them.

dont take it the wrong way, unemployment sucks. but as you may know here in germany we have a social system supplying everyone with a nice tv etc ;D

whoops, what a nice off-topic political statement right here. im truly sorry, shouldve kept my mouth shut, but i cant find the backspace key at all..

all i wanted to say: YOU ARE <your country here>! ;D

Dude, hell yes.  BRING BACK THE BOSS KEY.  I can't play games at work, but that brings back so many memories for me.  All games should have a boss key, even if there's no reason to have one at all.

:D about playing at work, thats all.

Translation:
I'm not sure if I understood what you were saying, but here is my answer:

I always finish my work, and play becuase I don't have work to do. My responsiblities always come first before play. It's not my fault that I don't have more to do.

PS: Sounds like you're really mad at free loafers. Anyone who has a job can't be labeled as such.

Back on point:

Boss Button owns.

You should. You don't know what my job entails or why I don't have more work, and you are making broad generalizations off of little information. I could say that you fit this same mold simply becuase you are student and are posting on this forum instead of studying or doing school work.

However I agree that what an individual does affects the whole.

I would actually like it if you could use "good old" Alt + F4 to exit the game or at least allow Alt + Tab. I s'pose this is a bit of an ask because the game was made so that nothing Windows-wise could interupt the game. ???

Alt-tab doesn't work for you?
Title: Re: PLEASE ADD A quick quit option
Post by: Quemaqua on December 15, 2007, 07:47:01 am
In XP alt+tab only seems to work if you have another program open.  Windows key bounces you out just fine, though.

Post by: 2disbetter on December 15, 2007, 08:50:49 pm
Bouncing out is fine, but concealment is what is important. If as soon as the game is paused due to it not being active if it would auto minimize that could be a solution as well.

I run Vista, and Alt + Tab always works regardless if only one program is running. I should try Windows Key + Tab.

OK, Windows + Tab works a treat. Also, if you press just the Windows Key you'll minimize the game. :)

Not using Vista at work. Also not running it fullscreen, which means the minimize button on the window key push wouldn't work either.

Also Windows + Tab in Vista does the 3d tile flip thing, and that is not what I want either, as that's just yelling I'm hiding something.

At any rate we don't use Vista at work. Just XP Pro.

Run it in a window instead and use a big window that looks like work (whatever you are supposed to do) to Alt-TAB into.

Plus you could hit the boss key, minimize the game and bring up a lovely bar chart filled with encouraging numbers or whatever depending on where you work :p

Heck, I just argue I'm learning LUA :p

The answer at my place would be "What for?" xD

Only thing I'm allowed to do here is programming in ABAP.

Yes, but the Windows Key will free your mouse from the game, pausing it and also giving you the chance to minimize or cover it up. Alt + Tab does not work in-game but pressing Windows Key first should fix that too.
With Vista's Windows Key + Tab, Aquaria will actually show as transparent. And if Alt + Tab (outside Aquaria), it will show Aquaria as a grey square with the Vista program symbol in the middle.

This is what is currently being done. However the desktop is usually more cluttered than that. Instead of work arounds that can and could not work, a simple boss key would do fine.

Also the transparency does not matter either as it would be obvious something was getting hidden.
Thanks for the suggestion though.

Mush Man, thanks but as I've said before I'm not using Vista at work.

Also Alt + Tab does work in windowed mode in XP and Vista. (same in fullscreen)

It was to be expected for my curiosity of never reading this thread. But at the same time, also my fault for not checking when the original post date started. *shrug* Meh, I think Chibi learned his lesson though.. lol 24 hour ban? ouch. Alec really put the gag on him. I'm sure he was squirming a bit because of it too.

I confess!  ;) I was a little (read as "chronically") trigger happy with the post button, raising the dead and otherwise dabbling in the dark arts of the forum. I've learned my lesson.

P.S. The ban wasn't a punishment more than a wake-up call (and it didn't make me squirm "squirms"

I've also tried to make my posts longer and more meaningful, so that I concentrate on quality instead of quantity. The evidence of my misdemeanor is spread across the forums if you want to hear the story from those who complained.   :-[

Until next time ...

I remember I was playing some game that was going around my school (back in high school) and I was playing it during spanish class and it wouldn't let me alt-tab, alt-F4, or anything.  I ended up just holding the power button on my laptop until it manually shut off.  The teacher was obviously suspicious but i didn't get in trouble.

ANYway, that's why every game should have a quick quit button.

Nasty situation neatly averted there Glamador lol I got in trouble for reading a comic during a music lesson, no computers then worse luck, the only computer in exhistence was the size of a very large warehouse lol
