Hello, all. And particularly Alec.
I've been thinking of this for a long time, and now it seems it is actually happening. Well, two things are. First, I'm getting married (not to anybody on this forum, no). Second, I want the DJ to play Aquaria music in the mix for the wedding reception.
Why do we think this makes sense? We're getting married . . . in an aquarium!
Yes, Arnassi statues will watch over the proceedings with a somber eye. The sculptor seems to have left off the limbs, but you can't have everything. For music, the Aquaria selection is planned as Light, Home, Technique, Mystery, Remains, Above, Moment, Sun Temple, Arnassi, Icy Waters, and Sunken City. These would be in amongst a bunch of other tunes with fades and such to keep it all sounding fresh.
So, Alec, how do you feel about this? Has anybody asked to use your music at a wedding before? And are you okay with this use? I can't see how you could possibly object (we bought the CD through the normal avenues, after all), but I definitely needed to post about this before doing it.
And there you go: take one emotional experience, use it to score another emotional experience, and tie it all together with "aqua" words. Symbolism!
I hope you are amused.

Very cool. I'm honored. :)
If you feel comfortable, it'd be cool to see some videos of how you used the music, but it's not necessary of course. Thanks for letting me know! I hope you two have a great day. :D

:o
Good luck to both of you and may the force verse be with you!

Hooray! Thanks, all!
We're being secretive about the details online so we keep our "real life" separate from our "apparently-it's-not-real-because-people-keep-contrasting-online-experiences-to-'real-life' life," all in the interest of privacy. But even if it weren't for that, despite our efforts we just can't get video recording for the event. Oh, well. It should be fun as-is!
. . . And the two of us will probably be the only ones who recognize the music. Ah, well. Can't let that stop you from being nerdy.

Be as it may, I can imagine Aquaria's OST fitting for a wedding, even more if it is in an Aquarium. Therefore, I'm sure that your guests will find it spot on as well, since it also has the ability to inspire a good mood (at least for me it does).
Best of luck for you two and don't ever loose that nerdiness. Because that's the awesome type of nerdiness.

Wise words! I second that! :)
This is very cool and it's a perfect idea to create a special atmosphere at the wedding. Good luck and have fun! :)

Thanks, yet again. We are unapologetic about the eclecticism of our tastes. There's good stuff almost everywhere.

This is so neat!

I second this cool idea!
The "nerdiness" level kinda reminds me of that guy who proposed to his girlfriend Stephanie through an "emotional readiness testing" Portal 2 map, whose final test chamber turned into a church, with GLaDOS (they actually got Ellen McLain to do the voice acting!) asking Stephanie if she wishes to become the groom's wife. :D That was epic.
As for your plans: I'm wondering if your bride is going to wear a Naija outfit for the ceremony, and if yes, which one. ;)

I am very slow to post, but . . .
We're married now! And the wedding was great fun. There were no other Aquaria-themed elements (no, zero costuming), but everything including the music was well-appreciated by the guests.
This was important. We were concerned that having an aquarium for a venue would turn off some people, but they all seemed to appreciate the fun stuff: you know, otters and sharks and plenty of things that you don't get in a plain old event space or catering hall. Then, when it came to the reception, we heard LOTS of good words about the music. People described it as "spiritual"; and this was coming from folks who were used to traditional religious ceremonies (ours was secular and hand-crafted). The younger generation (or at least one table-full of our age-group friends) tried to guess the TV series from which we took the music. They ultimately had to admit defeat and ask me, while Sunken City played in the background. And for amusement, it looked like the sea life (and particularly the giant octopus), enjoyed grooving to the tunes as well.
So, in conclusion, it worked. Thank you yet again, Alec (and Derek), for making the magic happen.
