Title: iPad controls
Post by: Jetcitywoman on December 17, 2011, 08:01:38 pm
For the most part, the game works well with the touchscreen interface.  Bt there are a few things I haven't figured out.  One is eating things in beast form.  It seems that if you zoom into the baddie (with the pink swirls around you) then you've eaten him.  But if you simply swim into him, you get hurt.  I haven't figured out the finesse to be able to zoom at will, has anybody here figured it out?

I also figured out that double tapping a seahorse saddles me up.  But I have no idea how to make it go.  Just sit there on a sedate seahorse.

I also think that switching forms is slow on the touchscreen, so boss fights that require different forms are probably harder than if I was playing on a pc.  Anybody else get that impression, or is it just me?

1) To swim, tap near Naija, to burst, tap further away. (At least it's like this using a mouse, so i assume it must be the same for touch controls).
And yes, you have to burst in beast form to eat stuff, swimming only isn't enough. This is intended.

2) When you are on a seahorse, sing to control it. You'll be a lot faster than normal, especially if you're wearing the seahorse costume.

3) Probably. Using singing only (= mouse only) to switch between forms is a lot harder than using quick-keys on the keyboard (Which i had to use for all optional bosses except nautilus prime, i have to admit. Maybe didn't try hard enough, though). But pointing a finger at something should be faster than pointing a mouse at something, so it may even itself out a bit.

Re: changing forms, you can use the quick form change in the lower left corner of the screen if you want to switch a bit faster.

To use the ipad quick form change controls at the bottom left of the screen slide your finger from the old form icon to the new form icon. Seems obvious now but I didn't realise this until more than halfway through the game.   I really enjoyed playing the game, by the way, and as a person of more mature years who's never played one of these large exploratory games before I now understand how my nephew could spend hours engrossed in Zelda...
