Title: Any chance of virtual stick controls?
Post by: HeRinger on November 12, 2011, 04:08:30 pm
I love, love Aquaria so much. Bought the PC version back when it was released for $30 and it's well worth it. At $5 this game is a steal.

That said, I don't like the controls on the iPad version very much. They work well, but my hand keeps blocking the screen. It's a beautifull game, so I don't want my ugly hand in front of it. It's also a little tiresome because I have to constantly keep moving my hand.

Is there any chance for the inclusion of a virtual analog stick in the future? I have one of those Fling for iPad joysticks, and it plays like a dream with Glowfix HD, a game with very similar gameplay (they even have the touch controls option that is exactly the same as Aquaria's). The option would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers  ;)

It's probably possible, once the iPad version source code is released.

I'd guess the answer is:

Short term: No.
Medium Term: Maybe.
Long term: Probably.

Can't be more specific, because, well, we don't have the source code yet.

EDIT: No idea what further plans Andrew has, but for now he's more busy hunting crashes / low memory conditions.

Can't you just plug in an USB gamepad and use that for now? Or did apple try to save money and did not even install a USB port?

iPads don't have USB ports. Thought everybody knew that.

How a gamepad would even work if the game is not programmed to work with a gamepad...? Maybe if I was jailbroken, but still...

iPads do have USB ports. They're just hidden in Apple's dock port for every conceivable signal line. You can get an adapter somewhere, but I doubt there's an API for gamepads and joysticks built into iOS.
