Of course there is audio and it's great!

Try updating your soundcard drivers. :)

I take it that updating drivers makes no improvement?

Also what kind of card do you have?

I have the Sound Blaster Audigy 4 and updating the driver did the trick.  Game plays fine now.  Thank you and yes I feel pretty stupid.  The advice helped though, I really thought my drivers were fine since it worked on other apps.  You never know.

Haha, don't worry about it, I had some audio problems too and it was fixed once I updated my drivers. Enjoy the game in all its visual and aural glory! ;)
