Hey, I have a quick question about buying Aquaria. Is the unlock key or download you get from buying the full version in any way related to personal information, like your name or a credit card? I was thinking about buying Aquaria for someone, but I'm unsure about this. Any help would be appreciated.
-
It is related to the name you give when signing up. Give the other person's name to have it personal to them.
The details you must input are like
Name: Blah Blah
S/N: XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXXXXX
and the name you put in there appears on the title screen, so it would be a good idea to put your friends name.
-
Is this during the installation process, or the buying process? If it's just a matter of giving a name when you enter the serial number, I can just buy the game, put the serial and install file in a zip file, and send it. Sorry if I'm being difficult, I just want to know exactly where to do this so I don't mess it up.
-
No, it's the name you give when you buy it. They email you a "enter this name and serial number" email, so whichever name you enter in the buying-on-the-website phase is the name that will eventually appear on the title screen.

So I give my friend's name here:
https://www.plimus.com/jsp/buynow.jsp?contractId=1724988
But use billing information for me. Is this right? Sorry to keep bothering you, but I want to make sure I know what I'm doing. I'm a tad paranoid. :o
-
Yep, put in his/her name in the First Name Last Name boxes. It doesn't matter whose info you put in the others.
Just make sure you put your correct info in the card details page on the next page (if you use a card) for security purposes.

Good post, I know some people were confused about this. Maybe it should be stickied, even?

We're also looking into a gift form to make it easier to figure out. Plimus has yet to get back to us on that I think...
In any case if you run into problems you can just contact us and we'll sort it out.
-
Ah, but on the next page, it doesn't request "name on card" or anything of that nature. I don't want to inadvertently trigger a fraud check because the name I'm entering for ordering (my friend's name) doesn't match my name (on my card).
In order to protect our customers from credit card fraud, we verify billing information with your credit card company BEFORE processing your order.
Please be aware that our servers record the unique IP address that a browser transmits when requesting a page download which can be used by law enforcement officials to identify a person committing credit card fraud, even if that person does not provide his or her real name.
About how long do you think it would take before a gift page/option shows up? I'm not trying to be impatient.
-
I dunno, we asked Plimus about it and they have yet to get back to us.

Well, I'll just order now and see how it goes... thanks everyone for your help.
EDIT: It seemed to go through just fine. Sorry for bothering everyone. :-X

I had a friend try it just last night and it worked fine for him using the other name. So yeah, it appears this has worked okay for people (though it does seem a bit strange).
-
Personally, I thought it would check the name entered for the customer (the name that ends up registered in the game) against the name on whatever payment method. Seems kind of odd, but it worked (so far).
-
I've seen some Plimus stores do it, but I don't know that it's built into their system yet. We'll let you know when we find out. :)

Is there any way to make a gift purchase of the game, and then later (say, after Xmas) change the email address associated with the order so the gift recipient gets the product update emails?
-
I bought a copy for myself today, then immediately went back and bought a copy as a gift for my cousin. The first purchase went through just fine, but the second one was flagged for some reason so I'm still waiting for plimus to call me back to do whatever it is they need to do to process the order. Hopefully they get back to me before monday.
-
Hmmmm... its in Plimus' hands at that point.
But if it gets too late, drop us an email and we might be able to work something out. :)

Yeah, had that too with another game. The fact is, Plimus checks every order you place and if you place the same order twice they think you placed it by accident. Just send them an email with your order number and tell them that you meant to purchase it twice.

Hey guys. I got your message about the 1.1.1 version coming out soon and it started me thinking about buying the game as a gift for a few people. Any word about gift forms and the like yet?
-
+ any news about the gift option for Mac, Alec?

Its up to Ambrosia at this point. I suggested it pretty heavily to them because I think it would be a great thing for customers (getting the option to gift) and for them as well. (more sales)

I know it's up to them, but I thought you may have some insider-informations. ;) Thanks :)

I believe it should be mentioned that now that Aquaria is on Steam, it's very easy to buy Aquaria s a gift for someone else. if they have an e-mail address or even easier you have them as your Steam friend you can very easily purchase them a copy. =)
So spread the holiday cheer!

Just bought it again for a friend, but I went with the non-Steam version since he uses Linux most of the time, and when I tried it Steam was often problematic to run via Wine.
