I've been running Aquaria just fine for over 12 hours of gameplay, but when I went into the Kelp Forest (doing things a little out of order, apparently) I ran into a bug. I think it happens whenever spiders (or spider crabs? I can't see them) are about. I know this because if I kill them they drop spider eggs and the glitch goes away. A grid of black boxes covers my entire screen, and the menu won't show. The pop-up text shows if I hover over where icons should be, and I can even click and close the game if I guess and hit the right places, but none of the menu graphics appear.

I'd really love to continue playing, does anyone have any recommendations for how to try and fix this?

Corrupted files? Or it could be a graphic card problem. Try updating your drivers. I've never seen that bug before, so I'm not sure where it comes from.

Yeah I'm fairly sure a reinstall will fix that.

Well, I had Steam verify the files before I posted, but it didn't give any sort of message indicating that it found any corrupted files. However, today when I started the game up again, I didn't get the glitch, so I guess it did repair something.
Thanks for the suggestions.

verifying the game files on steam did not do anything to help my problems.

I'm running a 4830 on Windows Vista. If it wasn't verifying files that worked to fix mine, it might have been turning off Anti-Aliasing and Anisotropic Filtering.
I haven't had the problem recur, but I don't know what I did to stop it.

Verifying is different than reinstall. Though when reinstalling, be sure to backup your saves.
Anything said besides that, is that you could update your drivers, see if it's fixed then.

well i also backed up my save data, which saved anyway after deleting local game content on steam, and reinstalled all files. and the problem was still there. so maybe it is an AA/AF problem. i will try and get back to you.

enabling "application" settings for AA and AF did the trick. thank you!
