I know there are a few threads already on this area, but I still seem to be stuck. I did get him into the trap twice, but the third time I am having ALOT of trouble getting him to move forward enough to get his arm or something in range of the trap because as soon as he seems to be in range, he backs right up.
Also, whenever I keep trying to lure him over by being a piece of bait (lol), I die before I can get him over.
I don't know whether I should do a new game and collect more resources somehow before fighting him.
Somebody mentioned a recipie for a spicy something, but I don't have that recipie.
edit: I made the title a bit more descriptive. Can anybody help me out here? I could try doing a new game, but still.
edit: decided to make it slightly less spoilerish.

The third time he won't move all the way forward so you need to use the laser at the moment that he reaches for you with his arm. It's tricky but just stand in front of him and when you think he's about to attack, shoot the pearl.

sorry for the double post but...
ARGH! for some reason I'm having more difficulty in getting the first two attacks in this second time, dunno whether I'm bieng too cautious. It's just that the arm doesn't even seem to be in reach and its hard to really do it. Somehow I missed the healing poultice, which seemed to really help the first time around, so maybe I could do a start over to get the healing poultice. I really don't know what I'm doing wrong.
Honestly I like exploration games, but its this sort of battling I'm not real good at sometimes.

All you really have to do is swim close to him (while avoiding the energy balls) and then immediately dash away from him again.
If done right, the swipe shouldn't even phase you and he comes shuffling forwards a bit.
Of course you should do the whole pearl thingy before you lure him :P

Heh, I typed a whole thing before, but the above poster really said it all, and more concisely. Just stay close until you see his attack animation start, then get the hell out of dodge. He'll come forward each time, so after a couple tries you'll have him close enough for a zap.

I also kind of keep attacking, which drives him back :P might be easier with a fresh mind.
and yes I did the whole pearl thing lol, thats about the easiest part.
