I'm not sure if this has been posted anywhere or not and I am at work right now so I can't try it out. I went to update the drivers on my laptop and they are very outdated. I have found out that laptop manufacturers are being greedy some some very nice people have made this handy utility to be able to install the latest drivers
http://www.driverheaven.net/modtool/
this may help some people on laptops
ps: I also found out about this http://www.omegadrivers.net so there are some options for us out there :) yayyy
wow I just installed the game on my work computer it's using a
radeon xpress 200 series 64 mb of ram
and it's p4 3.0 ghz with 512mb ram
and I just got the latest omega drivers and what a difference the game made before installing the drivers.
I have it running with vsync off, framebuffer effects on and mip map off and i'm running it windowed since I'm at work also only 800x600 resolution so that
way it doesn't take up my whole screen

Awesome find there. That took care of things for me! Ati Mobility X1400
The modtool is what I ended up using.. Didn't try the omega drivers.

I <3 you Barret. ;D

yeah I think both ways will work b/c the omega drivers are based off the official catalyst drivers they are just somewhat tweaked.
Either way I think this is just what the doctor ordered for aquaria b/c I the vid card on this work comp is not that great and I am now able to run it very smoothly.
I'm really glad that this helped someone out to enjoy aquaria in it's true beauty :)
yay I <3 you too Alec and I can't forget Derek either. I mean this year is bringing me back to what sparked my interest in gaming. So far super mario galaxy and Aquaria are really bringing back those feelings of just flat out awesomeness that has been lacking in most of todays games.
Oh yeah I still have my original Aquaria instructional manual.

I moved to nvidia a while back for my main PC, but I had a mobility Radeon chip in my last laptop and I used the Omega drivers extensively. If the current releases are anything like what they had when I was using them, they're absolutely fantastic and you should *definitely* try them out. They were a vast, vast improvement over the official releases and worked wonderfully.

just an update. one thing that the omega drivers does in the opengl settings at least for my ati express 200.
It set the texture quality to quality and this actually doesn't hinder the visuals too bad but there is a difference
here are some screenshots of the main menu
here is with the quality setting for textures in Opengl
(http://i14.tinypic.com/6twsj09.png)
now here is with the high quality setting for textures in Opengl
(http://i1.tinypic.com/823c30o.png)
as you can see high quality looks sexier of course. I get a lil bit of increase in performance with just the quality setting but it's completely playable with the high quality setting

*bump*

That is very cool. I'm often called upon to fix or tweak people's 'puters and many of them have Dell. This is a wicked find, Barret:)
-
Thanks A LOT. Had some troubles on my ASUS notebook (in game the upper half of the image was just cut off, in any possible resolutions and graphic options). Now everything is just fine.

It seems the ATI Omega drivers are outdated. Last Update on their HP is from June 08 and the last Omega drvier (4.8.422) is based on the old Cataclyst 7.1 -> ATI is currently at 8.1. (Still better 7.1 base than an Laptop Vendor's old 5.x / 6.x version)

It's alive! :)
(It's actually an appropriate bump IMHO) - Lots of people need help with glitches and other problems.
