Yeah, he was pretty tricky to figure out, easily the most trixy sideboss I found in the game.  :-X

Ok, anyone at least got a hint on how to handle this thing? "Nevermind" isn't all that helpful :P

I haven't done it myself, yet, but my brother said you'll have to use the plant form to spike him down the ceiling.

Yeah, I figured that out without to much hassle, but I still can't figure out how to actually hurt him. I must be blind to some obvious solution, but I just can't figure it out. I mean, it probably has something to do with the bombs he drops, but I've been trying now for to long so I'm no longer able to think straight ;)

I think you'll have to hurl the bombs back at him. But don't ask me how exactly, as I never did him myself (yet) :/

Before you launch a thorn at him, bind one of his orbs to follow you.  Then, quickly (before it explodes) knock him down, and let it explode on his face.  Blammo!

By the way, did you guys have a hell of a time getting through those damned bubbles to get there?

Thanks, I'll be sure to try that out...now that you mention how to beat him, it does make sense :) I didn't have much trouble getting there though, I just used beast form and a speed increasing recipe to get up there on the right side of the map.

I didn't really figure out how to get to the bubbles with beast form and a hot soup, could never grab on to a good area to throw myself onto a bubble.
But I found a simpler solution maybe? When in nature form, if you place yourself on the little island, charge up, and shoot a thorn right under you, it'll project you up really high, into the bubbles, makes it quite easy.
Makes me wonder if there are some other areas that could be reached using a thorn jump?

I usually just use them to make platforms for shaft climbing.

oh wow, sorry,

basically order of operation for the lobster guy is:

bind bomb,
switch to nature form,
charge seed above him,
swim around him until bomb explodes,
switch out of nature form,
repeat,
repeat,
dance,
chow down on some hearty sea loaf!

To jump to the bubbles, you can also use the big spinning ice "cubes" in the water, bring them close to the left side, climb on rotating ice then time your jump.

My OoO was slightly different:
Bind bomb
Go nature
Spike the boss
Frantically tap 'X' (switch out of nature form)
Put up a shield
Hang out near boss
Laugh
Repeat
Repeat

Mine was even moar different:
Sing Bond
Sing Nature form
Charge seed and shoot
Get hit by falling lobster/crab/shrimp
Swim around untill bomb explodes
Get hit by bomb
Switch back to normal shape
Swear at your computer
Repeat,
Repeat,
Jump out of window out of happiness and frustration.

I did not know keyboard shortcuts, only one I knew was Escape

Ya when I figured out the keyboard shortcuts for changing forms it completely changed the way I played..

I never learned the form shortcut keys either; just Q, escape, and X.
The game is really, really forgiving about "sloppy" singing, though.  As long as you hit the right notes fast enough, you can accidentally hit one or two wrong ones in the middle of the song, and it still works.

Number keys.  1-8 are the forms, 9 is shield, 0 is bind.

Trust me, being able to bring your shield up quickly is extremely useful.

I tried to avoid using the keyboard whenever I could...I felt like I was cheating by not singing....But as I got deeper and deeper into the final areas of the game I had to force myself...especially agains the final boss.  As for that lobster my plan was as follows:

Switch to Nature
Fire Briar Seed
Switch Out
Bind Orb
Unbind Orb
RUN AWAY
Repeat until I realized the timing was wrong if I bound AFTER spiking
Proceed to bind THEN spike THEN switch out THEN unbind
Proceed to read this thread and realize I made things way too complicated.

I tried that sort of tactic but kept dying and I wasn't timing things right. I decided to go get the jellyfish costume which should help me a little bit.

Concerning the bubbles: If you mean the ones at the Frozen Veil, you can also easily jump up the island on the right side by using the beast form. There is a blue crystal you can hold on to, so it's rather easy that way :)

And about the hotkeys: I only ever use the "X"-key for reverting, as oftentimes I just can't get clicking both mouse buttons right when fighting a boss or especially in the race.

I figured out what I had to do straightaway. The problem was I didn't have the patience to actually do it. I thought it would take 100 shots or something, but when I actually tried it, it only took 3. So it's not hard at all, if you know what you're doing (or maybe I was just lucky).
Note: I did however take heavy damage and had to heal after each shot.
