Oh my God.  It's like being stuck at my job.  Make the happy images go away...

I presume that discussions about controversial topics is also discouraged? Stuff like energy policy, adoration, religion, the Middle East, George Bush, Iraq, creationism, global warming, George Bush, etc. I know from experience that those kind of treads get nasty very, very quickly as people give very big emotional detachments to these topics.

Be accepting of each other
Treat others with respect

Hardly ever happens in these kinds of discussions. Sadly, that is. ;)

There's nothing wrong with a little healthy debating! Just make sure everyone counts to ten before posting. And besides, I doubt that Bush wil come over here and have his feelings hurt by the Aquaria forum, so it's okay ;)

Hah, you won't believe how touchy otherwise cool people can get when it gets to topics like religion or politics.

Personally, I would discourage these topics. Like I said, people attach very big emotional baggage with these stuff.

I think it's possible to discuss politics and other divisive social issues without it degenerating.  Feel free to start such topics if you wish - just keep in mind that they will be closely moderated.

Yeah, there's a law (as in Moore's Law) that if an argument progresses for a certain amount of time, the subject will turn to accusations of Nazism and racism. I havent seen that happen yet  ;)

[EDIT]: This post is OLD, but sorry!

Well, you can't miss Godwin's Law if you spend some time on the internet...

I guess you've been already noticed about reviving old threads? ;)

Hello,

Thanks for the information.  I would like to ask if it is okay to post something related to each topic that I can see on each thread?

Thanks

Hello, try not to post in topics older than half a year, please. :)

Attention! Important stuff!

As everyone else, I'm loving that we got and get new members through the Bundle and that the activity-meter went from zero to hundred in the last two weeks.

However, this much activity needs us to be a bit more careful about what we post where. This forum should, besides being a meeting point for Aquaria fans, help gamers who have a problem or are stuck somewhere.

At the moment, it is nearly impossible to find what you need, because we are talking about everything in every thread.

The first rule for this forum is focus and that's what I want you to do. Focus on the topic and try to stay there. There are enough topics which don't mind some random talking or going off-topic, but even once useful ones got derailed pretty bad. This has to stop.

If some of you want to chat (as ten new posts in one topic by 2-3 members in a few hours indicate), please use #bitblot on irc.esper.net. There are even browser-based clients, so you don't have to install mIRC or XChat or something else. Doing it in a forum is called flooding.

All this off-topic talking may even scare new users away, who get confused and overwhelmed by the amount of chatting in these forums.

Thanks for your attention. :)

I don't suppose you could make a standard welcome message to every new person with something like:
Welcome to the forum, if you are stuck with Aquaria go here
Do you just want info about Aquaria, go here.

Etc...

It would make a lot of things easier, there ain't sticky threads for nothing.

Though I do have to say that the chatting is becoming a bit too much, not enough to scare new people away though, if they're interested they'll surely stay.

Sir, yes sir! -army salute-

I'm gonna assume that was directed at me, since lately I've been having a tendency to derail topics.

Even worse is people who rederail topics just after someone has brought them back. ._.

I can't, I guess Alec can?

I don't think we should be too tough on off topic ness... otherwise that might scare some people away... I think it's better to have a friendly "you can go off topic if you want, it's only human" attitude than a "GO OFF TOPIC AND WE'LL BAN YOU!" attitude. :3

That said, I think that all off topic topics should at least have something to do with the first post. We wouldn't want to be talking elephants in a topic that's talking about defeating the Energy God. =^.^=

I think it's okay to express yourself and comment on other things as long as you devote most of your post to the topic at hand. Stay on topic, then include your jestful pokes at others after you've contributed in a meaningful manner to the topic.

If some of you want to chat (as ten new posts in one topic by 2-3 members in a few hours indicate), please use #bitblot on irc.esper.net. There are even browser-based clients, so you don't have to install mIRC or XChat or something else. Doing it in a forum is called flooding.
I suggest that we should have a browser-based page for chatting right on these forums. It sounds like it shouldn't be too difficult to install on the server. I know I'd use it. The easier it is for the community to chat with each other, the less likely it will happen in important threads.

You can join #bitblot via this site for example: http://en.gogloom.com/EsperNet/bitblot/ or add Chatzilla if you use Firefox...

I concur. In fact, that's what I've started to do lately, or at least tried to do unless the thread was already so off topic that I couldn't come up with a way to bring it on topic again. :/
