This game looks sooo good and I REALLY want to play it, but unfortunately
the demo is running like absolute shit on what should be a pretty good computer.
My specs are:
CPU: 2x 1.73GHz Intel
RAM: 894MB
Graphics: ATI Radeon XPRESS 200M
OS:Vista Home Premium
and I am seriously getting 1-2 fps even on the lowest settings.
Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? (aside from "uninstall Vista")
-
Providing you have the latest drivers for your graphics card, and the game STILL runs slow... I'd say the graphics card is the culprit. Try turning some of the effects off in Aquaria's config.
-
Well, I've got a similar system: amd2x 1.8 Ghz, radeon xpres 1150, but with XP. And so far aquaria runs pretty good at 1024*768 with frame buffer effects on, though I've had to disable vsync to prevent slowdowns in certain areas. So your system should indeed be able to run it much better. (unless, as you said yourself, vista is the culprit)
Also: make sure you've disabled AA.
-
i've got the same problem. even the bitblotlogo takes about a minute so show itself.
i really would like to try the game, but i can't D:
-
Have you tried disabling Aero ? It's pretty video-intesive, and I don't think a radeon Xpress can handle it. (Aero, not the game ;) )
-
I've tried updating drivers and turning down the settings and I don't have Aero switched on.
How would I go about disabling AA?
-
Should be of the options in the catalyst control centre.
3d -> anti-aliasing -> set it to "let application decide".
-
I know that the catalyst AA has given me issues in the past with transparency (such as the aero interface).
Maybe try toggling fullscreen?
-
What are your specs Kapitan? Maybe we can identify a common factor.
Aside from that, I've tried every suggestion so far and nothing seems to change.
The game is running unbearably slow right from the splash screen through to the menu
and the one time I managed to click "New Game", I quit before the intro cinematic was over
because it was taking so long.
Could it be a Vista compatibility issue? Is it something that's likely to be fixed in a patch?

I just noticed that, trying it now...

... and it works! Thanks for the tips!

This is just the very same for me... I was used to play it under XP until I went to Vista today...
Under XP It was working perfectly on 1024*780, full effects.
Now under Vista, with the same desktop i'm running at around 1/2 fps at the lowest settings.
I bet I could have seen a difference with Vista installed, but not THAT different !
And as far as I have a desktop, it will be useless to try fixing with that laptop thing... Any idea ?
My config is a Dual Core Intel 2.80 Ghz
1 Gb Ram
NVIDIA GeForce 7300
And it just run like hell... :(
Pretty sad about it :(

Vampyre,
Updating your video card drivers should solve the problem. And if that doesn't help, I'd try a clean driver install, as in wiping your current video driver installation and then installing the current drivers. As opposed to just 'updating' your driver.
-
Ok ! My bad ! Newest driver solved the problem... Thanks ! Very glad to play it again ! :D
-
Awesome!
Enjoy dude! The game is great, especially once you hit Open Waters... is straight up gloriousness after that point. ;)
-
I know ;)
I've just discovered The Veil... Searching what is required to do in that zone... But I enjoy it very much (or some other time really having hard time !)... Like Mithalas City with only the energy form... But I managed it, and enjoying the game !

You're at the exact same part I am! Needless to say, The Veil is blowing my mind ;) I id Mithalas with only energy form as well. It was tough, but very very fun.
