I may well have figured it out by the time I get back here but in case I haven't, I'm having trouble with this boss.
My current tactic is to use the energy form and a spicy roll, blast the heck out of it and try and jump out of the water whenever he's trying to manipulate it.
When I get to a certain stage he starts going nuts and blasting lots of glowing balls at me and smashing me about into those damned spikes. I have gone on for a fair while after this blasting him but he doesn't seem to die.
Do I just need to persevere or is there some sort of neat tactic of trick that I'm missing?
The only way I've survived so far is be accidentally boosting myself out of an exit in the top of the arena when I had spped boost on! (I presume that's a bug and you're only meant to be able to exit when you've beaten the boss).
-
That's pretty much it ... there's another form you can use when he's draining the water that will make him not drag you in. Other than that, there's nothing else to the boss.
-
Ah well, perseverance it is then.
-
Well there's one other trick at least...
-
I found a very easy movement-limitation-exploit on this boss.
Where you come into the room, there's an area free of urchins. It's literally just the boss-side of the door.
Sit in there, switch to energy mode and keep right clicking. The boss cannot get to you there, the only thing you can be hit by is the energy blasts he emits when he gets pissed off. You don't even move when he sucks/blows the water because you are in a little dip.
I used like two eye cake things to replenish my health, and didn't have to move around at all :D! Try if if all else fails, this guy was seriously hard when I tried to fight him normally.
-
I managed it eventually.
Guess it's time for a trip to the abyss now.
-
Like dhakkel, I found that as soon as the door closed, I just attached to the door and started firing....only got hit by 2 wild energy shots. The boss can't get that close to the door and can't pull you off.

Ugh, good luck, I had to stop my 14 hour play session on the boss there because it's too damn hard to do when you are this tired :(.
-
I beat him on the first try using speed postions and mashing the energy attack button, occasionally jumping out of the water when he was sucking...
And... If the Kelp forest isn't where the Abyss is... Then I've just beaten a dungeon out of order! ^_^ b

just where exactly is this spot? I've tried the spot right near the door but the giant worm keeps sucking me off and I don't have a whole lot of time to look for it since he sucks water in very fast.
-
Oioioioi a topic like this after I finally beat him normally? >;|
-
I'm just wondering because I have no idea how to beat him normally.
-
I used Nature Form, to great effect.
Go down in the very bottom of the room, and shoot a tree onto an urchin so that it closes off that area. Keep regrowing the tree, and throw some other trees nearby. The boss will just keep running into them, and won't be able to suck you in because you're blocked off. Sometimes, though, he'll manage to suck you through the tree; use Beast Form to swim away, then go back down and use Nature again. Be sure not to kill yourself on your own thorns if you're in another form.
As an added bonus, Nature form keeps the urchins from hurting you.
This is why I love Nature form the best, it's got so many tactical applications.
-
I beat him twice, i think i died before a save point the first time. Both times i killed him the same way, if you can get him to jump out of the water, he'll get stuck on the spikes up near the ceiling. I don't know if that actually damages him, but he can't move and his energy attack is easy to dodge, so then i just lobbed a few trees up there and started spraying him with energy blasts

hmm, I could try that tactic :) I can also deploy my blaster pet to let it take potshots at it, or maybe the pirana? not sure which one is more effective. Although the pirana does make enemies that it's attacking spin in circles like it's yelling 'GET IT OFF ME! GET IT OFF ME! OWOWOWOW!!'
its especially effective against those one eyed starfish things.
Edit: I hit on a slow strategy which I jumped up to the (sea urchin?) ledge and used nature form to spam those briar thorns down below where the worm guy would impale itself on them. It took a while and several tries because I kept accidentially jumping off the ledge. Eventually at the last try I got him to really low health and he was going nuts, but it was taking quite a while, so I sort of jumped in (accidentially or on purpose, I don't know, lol), but I decided what the hell and switched to energy form and went into energy bolt machine gun mode . It didn't take very long from that point where I jumped in, maybe 10 seconds when he was defeated.
You would need a good deal of patience for this method. I also had to constantly make sure I stayed in that spot on the ledge.

For me, the grabbing on the door for not getting sucked in never worked. I used the arachnoid form to stop him from getting me. ;)

arachnoid form? are you talking about beast form? because none of the forms look arachnoid. Unless.... you mean one of the food items.
-
Why use a bug to beat him? Obviously its not meant for you to stand still in on position and just fire off, or for him to get stuck above the water.
Use some +attack, speed and armor and just play it like a man.
Energyform for damage.
Beastform for swiming away.

Yeah, I meant the food (of course) I just don't wanted to make it too clear. ;)

I'm pretty sure the devs meant to allow people to use different tactics against bosses.
-
yes but im not so sure about the strat where u make him stuck in the ceiling without being able to move and then just fire at him.. anyway if i found out i could do that i wouldnt do it.
-
I don't know how I did it, but I know I barely made it. I had only a very small bit of health left and absolutely no items to cook anymore, I even ate all my sea loaf to stay alive, I'm actually glad I did. But I didn't die! :D

That's what I like to hear! :D

i don't know how it kept happening, i think it had to do with me always jumping out of the water to avoid the suction
-
Swapped between Energy Form (Didn't charge much, just blasted) when nothing was happening, Beast Form when he sucked initially, and Nature Form when he blew back out (In case I hit any Urchins), wasn't too bad, although a couple of unlucky fireballs to the face required some quick nibbles, but otherwise wasn't toooo bad. God bless number keys :D
-
Eheheh, at this time i didn't knew about the shortcut keys yet. :D

man up and use spider webs. rawr, love spider webs

I wish I had thought of that when I first fought him, it's such a good idea. I never really used any of those "special effect" foods. Mostly just health and boost items.
-
I pretty much used only health, unless it was needed to get somewhere.
I think my whole inventory has like 2 or 3 health items and the rest is ingredients and special stuff.
-
LOL. Hooray for the SEA LOAF! Bartender, another round from me ;)
-
Oh yeah AND 8 sea loaf, always, even if it costs me to sacrifice a stat booster cooking item.
Which is what I did with this boss, I sacrificed almost every stat booster item to get sea loaf that would heal me, a still pretty good solution if you ask me.

just show me a pic about that place
-
I too would like a picture of the correct place to sit. I hate that guy.
-
Same here Glamador, I didn't use too much of my heal items but the fight left me feeling very breathless trying to avoid hime and those poisonous corals :(
There is one thing that really puzzles me about this place, how come you land to the left of the 'Sun temple' when you jump out of the ceiling of the bosses room, surely it's on the right of the temple? That is just so weird lol
I've just read through this thread from the beginning, what a lot of different ways of killing him I must try some of them next time instead of going in gungho lol
-
Lol. I just used energy form and swam around in circles about the room. Health items and some speed boost items. And some defence items.
He didn't seem that hard to me.. o.o;
-
I had trouble with this boss too - I was trying to be "clever" and was switching between Nature, Beast and Energy forms... and at one point, the worm seemed to get kinda stuck on one of the walls :X That's actually how I killed it, I think. I don't know if that's a bug or if it just wanted to hang around.
My comp crashed a while ago, and while I finally got Aquaria working, it's had a few mini bugs that let me know something is still wrong... and I wondered if that was what this was. Sometimes places on the map flash and they're not supposed to be there at all on that area's map, and sometimes the darkness effect/light effect is messed up. Sometimes I could see what I wasn't supposed to, and the Sun Form's charged ability didn't always work right away. Not bad enough that I can't play, it's just a delayed action.
-
If you notice weird bugs, you should sign up for the new beta. It'd be helpful to test on hardware that has shown bugs previously!
You can find the info here (http://www.bit-blot.com/?p=69) if you haven't seen it already! :)
-
I don't know that it's so much bugs in Aquaria as my computer bugging out in order to show it on the screen. Originally it did not do this, pre-crash. I think part of the hardware was fried a bit, although when I took it in to get fixed, they didn't figure this out.
About the Sun Worm; anyone find it really scary that there is a hint that the sun worm was the god of this race/species of mer people and got angry and decided to burst out of someone's head? I'd totally not want to see that or live through it *shudders*.
