Ok so i recently got to the jellyfish king boss fight and i keep getting killed even after i use all my food he kills me is there any way to keep his friends under control?
-
Hmm. He is a pretty tough boss to beat unless you keep his little friends under control, yes. I find it's usually easiest to eat large groups of them in beast form to clear some space for hitting the king himself. Just let them build up a bit then focus on culling them until you think you have enough breathing room to get around. It might be helpful to eat some spider roll too so they get slowed down.
Hope that helps. :)

I eventually got through using this general strategy:
In Energy Form, focus on rate of fire. Spraying the core with a hundred shots and missing with eighty of them is better than connecting with every one of a carefully-aimed fifteen, especially when the shell around it is moving. When it starts up the lasers, focus on staying inside them and just keep firing, no matter where the shell's opening is; a few are bound to connect, no matter how bad you might be at shooting around corners.
When his homies start to seriously harsh your vibe, switch to Beast Form (via the hotkeys), get them all bunched up in one place, and dive in and out of it with your mouth open until you can see the Jellyfish King again through his cloud of swarming cnidaria. (This will also heal you a bit, which means you may even have a piece or two of Fish Meat left over when you're done!)
Then again, on my second playthrough my general strategy was to go directly into the Abyss after getting Energy Form just so that I could murder the Jellyfish King and take his stuff. And I thought that strategy made the game considerably easier. So I may possibly be an utter madman, leaving my advice no use to you or anybody else. ^-^

Well i got him, and out of 8 healing poultices 8 tasty rolls 2 legendary cakes and a sight poultice i got out with a legendary cake :-\
-
That is generally how it goes, yes. :P Congrats! Enjoy your adorable jellyfish hat, for it is like unto a tiny blue haberdashery god.
-
I thought I'd try some of the recipes and overpower myself just for fun. I ate: swordfish roll (had blaster pet), tough cake, spider roll, spicy roll and veggie soup. Then I swam, constant firing, in circles.
It was a piece of cake and not even necessary to eat the jellies away. ;D
This works too. ;)
Spider roll and something to upgrade your shot are really good choices. Some regeneration stuff is neat too.

I beat most bosses by advancing in the story until i had the last form, which is fantastic for crowd control.

I thought this guy was looking hard, but fish form poison allows you to outrun the smaller ones and kill the bulk of them allowing you to make quick work of the king.

I use it waaay to seldom. Never think about it. Did a nice job with the sunworm, though... :)

There's a fish form poison?
What exactly can the fish form do? I think I missed most of its abilities. @.@
-

Oh, almost nothing. It swims through little passages, a couple of really annoying enemies ignore them (starmies and leeches and two or three others), and they can blow bubbles.
Seriously, that's their right-mouse-button power. Little tiny bubbles.
That's pretty much it.
But there's this one item, the Swamp Cake (made with a Healing Poultice and a Rotten Cake, yum yum), that makes those bubbles poisonous for thirty seconds.
(At least, so I hear. I've never bothered to make any, because I don't really use Fish Form.)
-
Nearly right.
Firstly, you can trap other beings in the bubles. If I'm not mistaken, it's even possible to trap the priests in Mithala.
And the bubbles don't get poisonous, you get really nasty farts and poison everything behind you in big poisonous clouds.

Oh, so that's how that works. I was trying to use this in the King Jelly battle and wondering how come the little jellies didn't seem to be dying off. I thought "fish form poison" meant the fish just automatically exudes poison clouds while it swims.

Yes, he does exactly that. Nothing with poisonous bubbles.

There are so many things in Aquaria that they don't explain to you. ._.

Which is good for some people, bad for others. I love exploration and hate hand-holding, so it works out pretty well for me.
Experimentation with game mechanics is fun!
I didn't mess around with fish-form too much the first run, I'll have to try out the poison food.

You get the recipe for swamp cake somewhere in Mithalas, I think. Or maybe it was somewhere high in the kelp forest. I used it effectively twice (other time was the Mithalas priests), but it's great for bosses (or anything where you need to swim around the same general area), especially the jelly fish king, since the poison lingers around and kills any new fish. I'm not sure if it damaged the king himself as well.
-
I tried shooting bubbles at enemies and it didn't work. :( Am I doing something wrong?
-
Not every enemy can be bubbled, if you had poison on, I'm not sure what to do then.

I think people are having a lot of trouble with this boss simply because they're trying to hit the core when it's spinnig, which is something I believe you weren't supposed to be doing. First time around I tried to focus on the core myself and was completely dominated; but as soon as I discovered I could eat the red jellyfish everything clicked together and I beat him on my first try with this tactic - using no food at all, no Li and with Dumbo Octopus pet, which is like not having pet at all.
00 Energy Form. Shoot the core.
01 Core starts spinning. Switch to Beast Form.
02 Lasers appear. Move around the core along with them, eating the red jellyfish.
03 Lasers disappear, core should be stationary at this point, most if not all red jellyfish are dead.
04 GOTO 00
Piece of Sea Cake. As an additional bonus, eating tons of red jellyfish(and you will eat tons of them) replenishes your health.

I had a ton of trouble with this boss as well, which tends to send me searching through my inventory for interesting things to eat. :)
There's one item that stood out, and made quick work of the Jellyfish King once I figured out what it did; Spicy Soup, that gives you the mysterious ability of "Beast Shot".
On a hunch, I tried it out, and blam - beast shot gives you a sort of energy shot while you're in beast form! Best of both worlds, and it makes it possible to stay in beast form without any clumsy switches.
EDIT: Added the name of the soup.
-
Don't get me wrong, I definitely had a tough time with it. However, I happened to have been doing a lot of experimental recipes lately, and even had a Spicy Soup (the one that gives Beast Shot) ready, since I just spent the whole time in Beast mode. Surprisingly enough, I did use a lot of food but had no deaths (thank god, cause I don't know when my last save was)
When I beat him and collected the treasure, I was a little thrilled with myself to glance at a walkthrough and see "Some say this is more difficult than the final boss"
Score one for meee.

I died at least five times because of this boss. And had to traverse across two half abysses to get back to the boss. >.>
